Position Summary


The Ehlers Danlos Syndrome Program is an academic and service unit within Toronto General Hospital serving the needs of entire Ontario.

We are a unique one of its kind clinic for the province of Ontario therefore serving Ontarians for specialized programs and services such as diagnosis and management of hereditary connective tissue disorder of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS).


This role offers training and educational opportunities both at orientation and an ongoing basis, and will be expected to develop their potential as a leader and teacher in the EDS program.


Duties

  • Utilizing and demonstrating a theoretical knowledge and advanced level of clinical competence and excellence in caring for patients
  • Collecting and interpreting data about the health of patients, symptom management, developing a medical diagnosis and management plan in a team environment
  • Play a vital role on the interprofessional team and will have quality improvement, research and administrative responsibilities
  • Participate in policy or clinical pathway development as well as education and professional development
  • Interact with other team members including consulting physicians, other PAs, nurse practitioners, trainees (residents and fellows), nurses and other clinical and allied health staff

Qualifications:


  • At minimum, a Bachelor's Degree in an accredited Physician Assistant program or recognized equivalent
  • Must be a Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA) and/or a American Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C)
  • Must be a current member of the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA)
  • Eligible to work in Canada/Ontario
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complete and appropriate clinical assessment and development of a treatment plan in accordance with medical directives
  • Proficient and appropriate use of diagnostic and procedural skills
  • Demonstrated effective problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated and proven ability to work in a collaborative care model with all members of the health care team
  • Demonstrated ability to perform well in critical and high stress situations
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education activities supporting ongoing professional learning
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  • Willingness to work with the supervising physician to adjust medical directives as needed and evolve the role to meet the patient/program needs
