Elk Island Public School Division invites applicants for the position of Assistant Principal at Ardrossan Elementary effective the school year.

Ardrossan Elementary serves approximately 610 students in kindergarten to Grade 6, with 29 teaching staff and 18 support staff. The school is located in Ardrossan, AB, approximately 10 minutes east of Sherwood Park, AB.


Ardrossan Elementary is a dual-track school offering an English program and a French immersion program, both known for their strong emphasis on academics and leadership.

Ardrossan Elementary is also a designated Play and Learn at School (PALS) pre-kindergarten site within the Division.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
A strong foundation in elementary literacy.

The supervision and support for inclusive education, which includes ISP and Benchmark completion and updates. In addition, the AP position would support staff with numeracy and literacy.

Conferring with students, parents and staff to find the best solutions possible to help students succeed.


Developing innovative and creative strategies to increase student engagement, including the necessary supports for the success of students in inclusive settings.

Building relationships with students, staff and families to maintain a positive school culture.

Maintaining high visibility and accessibility during the school day, including classroom visitations.

Providing leadership in creating opportunities for teacher collaboration.

Setting, maintaining and modeling high standards of professional conduct.

Leading the development, implementation and assessment of the instructional program.

Supervision, observations and evaluations of staff.

Effective verbal and written communications with a variety of groups and individuals.

Building positive work relations with all students from Kindergarten to grade 6, staff, parents and Central Services staff.

Oversee the physical building and log maintenance requests, as necessary.

Maintaining Emergency Preparedness Protocols.

Student Transportation.

School discipline and school-wide recognition program.

Assisting with timetabling and staffing.

Managing classified staff.

Creating various schedules.

Contributing to budgeting and staffing processes.

Planning and deploying professional development opportunities for staff.

Supervision of ISP construction and administration of STAR and MIPI benchmark testing.

There may be a teaching assignment attached to this position.


Experience, Training, Requirements:

Valid Permanent Alberta Teaching Certificate

Minimum five years successful teaching experience

Master's degree or nearing completion of a Master's program would be considered an asset

Experience as an Assistant Principal would be considered an asset
