As a leader in our branch, your role will be to inspire and cultivate our vision and cultural commitments while championing continuous improvement in your area of responsibility.


During the Summer period (approximately April to October), you will act as a Crew Leader, supporting PARS employees in the field.

In particular, you will be responsible for directing the work of teams.

As a Crew Leader, you will:

  • Provide field level supervision, hands-on leadership and training for crews performing a wide variety of semi-skilled manual duties in the delivery of approved work plans
  • Ensure consistent delivery of approved work plans in collaboration with the Team Leader
  • Inspect and approve completed work
  • Be responsible for maintaining effective working relationships with customers, the public, and crew members
  • Assist with the orientation and training of staff Promote a safe work environment
  • Monitor and evaluate attendance and performance of crew members
  • Provide coverage for other Crew Leaders or Team Leaders as required
  • Perform additional duties as required


During the Winter period, (approximately October to April), you will act as a Gardener, providing technical expertise to your team and using best practices to maintain the City of Edmonton's green spaces.


As a Gardener, you will:

  • Assist in creating and presenting SOPs, Hazard Assessments, and Safety Talks
  • Work with crews in horticulture, landscape, turf maintenance, and vegetation management
  • Participate in pruning
  • Participation in winter operations as necessary
  • Perform general maintenance alongside other crews to ensure they are using appropriate techniques and maintenance strategies
  • Perform site assessments in the field and provides recommendations to Leaders and Supervisors
  • Assist with seasonal planning
  • Recommend and trial new tools and techniques
  • Assist with, and collaborate on, updating and creating standard operating procedures and hazard assessments
  • Perform additional duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Completion of a 2 year post secondary diploma in Horticulture or in a related field or Journeyman Landscape Gardener Certificate, or equivalencies will be considered
  • 5 years experience in Horticulture and Landscape which would include the ability to identify various plants, understand plant needs, and familiarity with landscape design
  • Must have completed Chainsaw training coursework, or have the ability to complete this upon appointment
  • First Aid certificate
  • Extensive technical horticultural skills/knowledge
  • Machinery and a variety of operator and tool experience
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills and ability required
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), as well as analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Exemplary customer service skills Ability to inspect and approve work completed by crews
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Google suite, Microsoft Office suite, and SAP
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent, GDL not accepted). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driving Permit is a requirement of this position
