The mission of Brain and Mind at Western is to provide a centralized and visible presence for cognitive neuroscience at Western University.

The Institute's primary functions are to promote research, to facilitate the training of highly qualified personnel, and to foster national and international collaborations in cognitive neuroscience.


The Numerical Cognition Laboratory is a research group that is housed in the Western Interdisciplinary Research Building on Western's campus.

Members of the Numerical Cognition laboratory investigate the development of numerical and mathematical skills in children using a diversity of methods including behavioral research, surveys and functional neuroimaging.


Responsibilities:


The Research Assistant will support research and related administrative activities for the research project under the direction of a principal investigator.

The Research Assistant will assist researchers, staff, students and other members of the research team with a variety of day-to-day research duties to support and to facilitate the achievement of innovative research results.

The Research Assistant will assist with compiling and analyzing research results, and will support knowledge translation and dissemination. The Research Assistant will also support the development and implementation of future research projects.


Qualifications:


Education:


  • 3 year university undergraduate degree in Psychology, Neuroscience or Education
  • 4 year honor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience or Education preferred

Experience:


  • 1 year experience supporting research implementation and related administrative activities
  • Previous experience working with children and young people is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing research ethics in an academic environment
  • Familiarity with techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from a research database
  • Ability to collaborate and develop credible relationships with a wide variety of individuals, internal and external to Western
  • Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users
  • Ability to write clear, concise and accurate procedural documentation
  • Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
  • Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
  • Detailoriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
  • Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated ability take initiative, to work independently and follow through on work assignments
  • Ability to prioritize and organize a fluctuating work load
  • Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of the University community
  • Ability to interpret and identify key results from research and to succinctly summarize research findings
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant scientific/research principles
  • Familiarity with University policies and procedures related to research preferred
