Job Description:

AECOM is actively seeking an Intermediate Engineer / Environmental Scientist to join our growing Western Canada environmental team.


The role at AECOM will be a combination of project management and technical work delivery, though the work can/may vary based on the applicant's experience and career aspirations.


This position is ideally suited to an intermediate environmental engineer or scientist with aspirations to develop their project management strengths.

This position will primarily shadow acting project managers as a deputy project manager on large ($100k - $2M project budget) multidisciplinary environmental projects in environmental site investigation, remediation; and reclamation.


Technical responsibilities may include:


  • Development of technical solutions, working as the primary point of contact or field staff during the execution of assessment, remedial excavation, and reclamation projects.
  • Preparation, coordination, and participation in field programs to collect and analyze outstanding data gaps for design advancement (both office and field duties, though this position is intended to primarily be an office-based role with field visits one to two times per week).

+ Preparation of documentation for projects: technical letters, memorandums, and reports.


  • Preparing project-specific contract documents, construction packages, and cost estimates.
  • Performing construction supervision, administration, and monitoring, including contract close-out and reporting (both office and field duties).
  • Mentorship and development of junior staff.

Project management responsibilities may include:


  • Technical and quality coordination
  • Proposal and scope change preparation
  • Scope and budget tracking
  • Collaborating and coordinating work with peers from the environment business, peers from other engineering disciplines, clients, contractors, and sub-consultants.
  • Strong emphasis on safety

Qualifications:


Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant technical discipline, including but not limited to geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, or environmental engineering.
  • 4 years of experience as an environmental consultant, industry representative, or regulator versed in contaminated site investigation, remediation, and waste management.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 6 years of experience in field activities (Phase I site visits, drilling, groundwater sampling, vapour sampling, etc.)
  • Experience developing and preparing Phase I and Phase II reports for submittal and acceptance for technical clients and regulators.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clients and project team.
  • Ability to prepare graphics and reports that present complex technical matter in a clear and concise manner
  • Computer proficient in MS Office, and a variety of statistical programs helpful.
  • Strong team worker, flexible
  • Physically capable of completing field work in urban and rural settings.
  • Attention to detail and a thorough approach to work
  • Ability to multitask
  • Strong communication skills at all levels
  • Organized and able to work within a team of technical experts
  • Team player
  • Valid driver's license

  • Relocation is not available for this position.
  • Sponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position.
  • Offered rate of compensation in Calgary, AB will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $61,000 - $82,000.
