The

Ministry of Education, Ernest C. Drury School for the Deaf and Trillium Demonstration School requires an experienced individual to supervise an aquatics program for students who are deaf, hard of hearing and/or have severe learning disabilities.

What can I expect to do in this role?:


You will:


  • Plan, organize and implement instructional, recreational and training programs designed to meet the needs of students and life guarding staff;
  • Oversee day to day operations of the pool and swim programming;
  • Schedule staff to ensure safety;
  • Maintain records;
  • Implement school policies and supervise established instruction and water safety techniques;

How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:


  • CPO certification as recognized by the National Swimming Pool Foundation;
  • Ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures under the Health Protection Act, Regulation 565 Public Pools;
  • Level One Pool Operator's certificate;
  • Red Cross Instructors Certificate or updated equivalant;
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR;
  • Courses in Non Violent Crisis intervention or equivalent.

Skills and Qualifications:
Your background and experience enables you to meet the following requirements:

  • Demonstrated oral, written communication skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and other professionals;
  • Demonstrated excellent organization and planning skills to plan, organize, implement and facilitate effective recreational and training programs designed to meet the needs of students and life guarding staff;
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Public Pools Regulations and relevant legislation and Provincial Schools Policies and Procedures, guidelines and practices;
  • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to acquire;
  • Good judgment and problem solving skills.
