Responsibilities:

Our Maternal Child Team is currently seeking a Professional Practice Educator to join our team. Are you an experienced Maternal Child Registered Nurse interested in maintaining and improving patient care by advancing professional practice, developing and maintaining evidence based standards of care and building staff capacity? Reporting to the Manager, Interprofessional Practice and Director Mental Health & Addictions, Maternal Child, Allied & Rehabilitation Programs, the individual in this role works in collaboration with the Maternal Child Leadership team, the Physician and Midwifery teams, as well as the Professional Practice Educator team.

This position supports the development and adoption of best practice and excellent care delivery in alignment with the strategic direction of the program in the following patient areas:

Labour and Delivery Unit, Maternal and Child Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Paediatric Care Unit and Maternal Child Ambulatory Care programs.


As the leader in practice development, this position works in a patient centred, interprofessional environment, and provides support for clinical excellence through the identification of evidence influenced, quality initiatives across the Maternal Child Program.

With a focus on the integration of clinical standards and research, the Practice Educator works closely with the care team and other stakeholders to support clinical competencies and decision making, as well as to identify and optimize efficiencies in the delivery of care.

This position also collaborates with external agencies and academic centres to support formal and informal educational opportunities for students and preceptors.

In addition, this position contributes to the advancement of quality practice across the corporation.


Qualifications:


  • Must be a Registered Nurse; current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required.
  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Leadership, Health, or related field required.
  • Experience in Maternal Child nursing required
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider certification required
  • Perinatal Certificate and additional certifications related to maternal child care would be considered an asset (eg. PALS, FHSL).
  • Evidence of strong clinical knowledge and decision making skills
  • Knowledge and experience with using and interpreting quality metrics and change methodologies required
  • Demonstrated ability to provide support and leadership to advance evidence based interprofessional patient centered care
  • Able to promote practice excellence both internally and externally through research, education, and quality initiatives
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication skills, organizational and time management skills
