The Cleaner ensures the safety of all members, property and self by following established Workplace Health and Safety practices and procedures.

The position is responsible for performing all light duty cleaning, project and general cleaning, laundry duties and to keep cleaning and laundry equipment clean and in good repair all the time.


In this role, you will:


  • Perform all light duty cleaning, project cleaning, general cleaning and keep cleaning equipment clean and in good repair all the time.
  • Perform light duty cleaning like: dusting, sweeping and washing of floors, vacuuming of carpets and upholstery, cleaning lockers, counter tops, railings, mirrors, glazing and windows, cardio and strength equipment in conditioning room
    , Cyclefit room and free weight room.
  • Clean washrooms including toilets, urinals, washbasins, vanities, replenishes toiletry, body soap, remove garbage from various areas and dispose into the bin.
  • Perform laundry related duties, including collection of used towels, loading and unloading of laundry machines, folding towels and replenishing towel at the service desks.
  • Ensure the safety of all participants, property and self by following established Workplace Health and Safety practices and procedures.
  • Provide a high standard of customer service to all participants as per SAM standards and other guidelines set from time to time.
  • Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represent the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
  • Understand the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

You bring:


  • Cleaning experience in a commercial establishment
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers; excellent written communication skill
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environmen
  • Flexibility regarding assigned work schedule, including days, evenings and weekend
  • WHIMIS training an asse
  • Demonstrates and promotes a personal understanding of and appreciation for the mission, vision, strategic outcomes and values of the YMCA
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
