Position Summary:


The APU Head acts as a general manager for the vaccine production units and Media Washing and Sterilizing Manufacturing Platform on the Toronto Sanofi Pasteur Site.

The APU Head leads with direct and dotted line authority a cross functional team, consisting of members representing manufacturing and all site support functions, to manufacture Antigens or Vaccines according to most stringent quality, regulatory, cost and safety requirements and delivery schedules in a constant effort to provide best support to all associates and strive for excellence and continuous improvements to further enhance sites performances and customers' satisfaction.


The APU Head is accountable for an Autonomous Production Unit (APU) team that delivers best in class performance in end-to-end product supply, manufacturing operations, safety, quality and compliance for the products.


The APU Head leads a high performance, self-directed team with shared and aligned priorities, drives a culture of collaboration, provides executive direction, develops and implements business processes, and medium and long term strategic plans for the platform to anticipate further customer's needs and ensure sustainable best performance level in a changing environment.

The APU Head reports directly to the Head of Bulk Manufacturing.


Key Responsibilities:


Guide and inspire a team of leaders from functional areas of Manufacturing, Upstream APT, Production Support, Process and Projects, Supply Chain, Quality (independent member), Technical Services and Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Manufacturing Excellence, Finance and HSE to deliver on aligned platform priorities.

The APU Head is the general manager responsible for the overall performance of the vaccine manufacturing Platform:

Product Supply

  • End of End Supply and Release.
  • Robust manufacturing and timely delivery of quality products as per Customer Commitments.

Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance to site and regulatory requirements for the manufacturing of biologics and vaccines.
  • Platform audit readiness and quality performance.
  • Partner with site quality functions on SQP, SQC, major initiatives and program changes.
  • Ensure operability of facilities and equipment for the platform including adherence to planned maintenance activities.

Health Safety and Environment

  • Ensure compliance with site HSE policies and local regulatory requirements including environmental, ministry of labor, and PHAC regulations.
  • Lead by example in driving the internal responsibility system and a safety first culture within the platform.
  • Enables team to ensure that operations are carried out in a safe manner and safety issues are effectively resolved and prioritized.

Human Resources and People:


  • Support leadership development and succession planning within platform to grow local talent.
  • Empowers, coach and develop a cross functional team of leaders to work together and deliver aligned platform oriented goals and objectives.
  • Attract new talent to the APU to ensure business continuity for the long term planning horizon.
  • Employ Sanofi Lead Competencies in daily work and coach competencies with the team members.
  • Partner with HR to manage within the collective labor agreement (CLA).

Production Efficiency and Financial Results

  • Accountable for delivery to annual platform operating budget; maintains and controls spending according to budget and provides explanation for variances; minimizes product lost.
  • Ensures effective and efficient use of personnel.

Strategy and Reporting

  • Partnering with APU leadership, Manufacturing Technology, PMO and IAC (Industrial Affairs Committee), review current needs and define future infrastructure, equipment and process needs for 1,3,5 and 10 year horizo
