ABOUT THE ROLE

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY AND SKLLLS

  • Considerable knowledge of the practices and procedures used in the identification and resolution of hardware and software problems on networked computer systems.
  • Considerable knowledge of the practices and procedures used in the installation and configuration of networked computer equipment, and of hardware and software residing on same.
  • Sound knowledge of the functions of departments served and their requirements as applied to the work performed.
  • Sound knowledge of communications and local area network systems technology as it relates to the operation of networked computer systems.
  • Ability to investigate, assess and resolve software, hardware and communications problems and to liaise with vendor representatives and senior technical specialists on the more complex problems.
  • Ability to evaluate computer software and hardware and make recommendations regarding acquisition and use of products, as required.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:


Completion of a two year certificate program in computer sciences or related discipline at a technical institute or community college including courses related to network and communication systems technology, plus sound related experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.


REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATIONS:


This is a regular full-time position, working 35 hours per week including weekends, days or evenings based on operational needs.

The pay for this unionized position starts at $36.39 per hour (2021 rates) and has a pay structure with five steps which increase annually.

Comprehensive benefits include dental, extended health, and life insurance coverage, 3 weeks paid annual vacation, opportunity to participate in an earned day off program for an additional 15 days annually, participation in Municipal Pension Plan, and access to an Employee Family Assistance Program.


All employees should be available to work at any NVRC location and are required to submit a Police Record Check as a requirement of the position prior to any appointment.
