How you will make an impact:

This is a new and transformative leadership position where you will have a chance to make a significant impact supporting Osler and the TMU School of Medicine leadership teams.

This leadership position is accountable for and supports the Osler and TMU School of Medicine leadership teams and our academic partners in overseeing all aspects of planning, coordination and implementation of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education at Osler as well as supports physician faculty development activities.

This position's initial focus and accountability will be on building the education program for medical learners and supports required for our successful partnership with TMU for the new School of Medicine and Osler's transformation to an Academic Health Centre


The Manager will build a strong foundation in medical student services that align with and are in keeping with the strategic priorities and values of the organization(s) including advancing commitments to Equity, Diversity and inclusion (EDI) through learner and faculty affairs.

This role intersects with interprofessional teams internally and externally to build and sustain capacity of our learner and faculty support programs.

The Manager is politically astute, flexible, and proactive with a transparent communication style allowing opportunity to create and contribute to a high performance culture.

This position will report to the VP Medical Affairs & Academics, and will have accountability to collaborate on workplan deliverables and participate in committee work with our academic partners (TMU) through the Executive Director, School of Medicine.


Core Competencies
Learner Development/Support Services

  • Responsible for building and operationalizing all aspects of medical learners (medical students and residents) onboarding/hiring and offboarding using best practices and ensuring all organizational, (legislative, and regulatory requirements) are adhered to;
  • Oversees the daytoday administrative management and experience of learners;
  • Establishes internal quality processes in compliance with accepted standards for educational quality; manages internship activities for students and residents in accordance with accreditation standards;
  • Works with Academic programs to understand system needs and program pressures and works with internal stakeholders to identify organizational opportunities for learners;
  • Ensures safety and monitors the quality of Osler learners' experiences;
  • Responsible for ensuring learner program goals are in line with Academic Strategic Direction;
  • Responsible to work closely with TMU School of Medicine's Learner Affairs portfolio
Faculty Development/Support Services.

  • Responsible for supporting medical faculty affairs with academic partners including but not limited to, appointments, tracking, support and development.
  • Acts as a resource to regarding faculty development issues with all parties
  • Analyzes and reports on teaching and faculty development issues and trends, followed by recommendations
  • Facilitate and coordinate with TMU and McMaster a needs assessment to inform program design and program/course delivery
  • Responsible to work closely with TMU School of Medicine's Faculty Affairs portfolio
Administration of Education Office

  • Support the development/build of the education offices at Osler and TMU
  • Manages the education strategic initiative projects, including development, implementation and oversight of policies, procedures and processes to support faculty, administrative staff and students.
  • Responsible for financial management, human resources, planning, and quality improvement
  • Oversees the process for collecting metrics for organizational reporting and funding purposes
  • Oversees education software systems e.g., learner and faculty registration (NIRV system, etc)
  • Works closely with TMU on the planning and implementation of learner management systems (LMS) and related educational technologies
Relationship Building and Escalation/conflict resolution

  • On behalf of Osler and TMU, builds strategic external relationships and partnerships, networking with peer organizations, and other education institutions.
  • Works directly with learners and their supervisors to resolve conflicts, problem solve, answer curriculum questions, human resources issues, manage crisis, etc.

You have:


  • Undergraduate degree in a health care field/health administration
  • Five (5) years of progressively related manager and/or leader in a health care or academic environment.
  • Expertise in hospitalbased education and experience working in a large and complex organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislation and regulation with respect to health profe
