Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland) is recruiting for two Agricultural Assistants, Farm Operations to work in an industry-driven research environment.

This opportunity is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program - to be eligible to apply, you must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act_ for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Duties & Responsibilities:


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Prepare plant materials to be used
  • Implement prescribed scheduling of cultivation, planting, irrigation activities for optimal effectiveness
  • Operate a full and diverse line of farm equipment to plant, fertilize, mow, disk, cultivate
  • Operate tractors and associated equipment such as mowers, tillers, cultivators, planters and spreaders
  • Provide assistance for harvest and collection of crops for scientific programs

Qualifications:


  • Must have successfully completed a minimum education of Grade 1
  • Previous horticulture experience and equipment operation preferred
  • Valid Driver's Licence (required)
  • Effective communication skills
  • Strong skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to operate and maintain all relevant equipment and machinery
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently
