Support Staff Full-time Replacement Position

The Maintenance Technician performs semi-skilled work in the area of installations, maintenance, repair and general upkeep of buildings, equipment and facilities at the Doon campus, and other satellite campuses.

The incumbent is required to follow all Health & Safety policies and procedures and complete all training as required.


Responsibilities:


  • Performing repairs to buildings and contents by maintaining work areas to ensure maximum use of resources available (i.e., space, equipment)
  • Assembling and/or building cupboards, bookcases, shelving, and installation
  • Installing and repairing locks on doors, cupboards, filing cabinets, and desks
  • Performing minor painting (i.e., washroom dividers, touchup of walls, etc.)
  • Adjusting and maintaining door hardware (i.e., tightens striker plates, adjusts the speed of closers, lubricates hinges and locks)
  • Assisting various trades and/or contractors to complete tasks
  • Completing minor plumbing repairs
  • Responding to various maintenance calls and work requests
  • Completing repairs to drywall, masonry walls, and ceilings
  • Completing minor repairs to glass installation
  • Completing preventative maintenance to all roof areas (types) and completing repairs within the scope of knowledge
  • Moving furniture, up to and including complete assembly of modular furniture and completing repairs to the same
  • Moving equipment and supplies throughout campus buildings
  • Completing required academic space set up to ensure delivery of programs in all common academic areas, following appropriate codes and legislation
  • Completing repairs as per work request processes to program specific equipment as required
  • Acting as a member of the emergency response team and assisting with monthly fire alarm testing
  • Recommending scheduling of various jobs to ensure maximum use of resources (i.e., priority of maintenance calls and work requests grouping work together in the same area, timing when the room is available, etc.)
  • Reviewing/recommending changes to preventative maintenance programs up to and including the implementation of new processes and documentation of same for various building components and equipment
  • Providing temporary backup or assistance and support to various Facilities functions

Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • Minimum two years of practical experience in the maintenance and repair of building contents and equipment
  • Specialized technical skills would be an asset in some areas (i.e., locksmithing)
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with clients
  • Maintain in good standing a valid full G Class Ontario driver's license, personal transportation an asset
  • Overtime hours required, including before/after regular workdays as well as weekends, based on weather conditions and/or special events
