Highlights of the job

  • We are hiring one (1) fulltime, temporary (up to 18 months)
    Analyst, Cost Control position working out of Edmonton, AB.


As the Analyst, Cost Control, you will be accountable for developing and maintaining a cost control system for BlueSky project and other Commercial Services programs.

This position is responsible for developing project control templates, supporting the project team on cost forecast (monthly and annual), tracking and analyzing cost and reporting Projects/Programs cost performance.


The Analyst is accountable for the portfolio level analysis and monitoring of project progress including budgets, forecasts, cash flows, risks and recovery.

This position is responsible for monitoring project control standards and processes for all Cost Control needs for the Commercial Services special projects BlueSky and Sandow from inception through to completion.

What you'd be responsible for

  • Setting up cost management systems, monitoring and tracking of costs, and administration of change management processes. Coordinating with scheduler to develop and update cash flow forecasts.
  • Developing and maintaining templates related to cost forecasting, cost tracking, and cost performance reporting, including project control dashboard
  • Assisting project managers and construction managers in generating and analyzing monthly accruals, actual cost, forecast and cost variance reports of the projects and programs
  • Collecting and analyzing cost information/data, identifying trends, and reporting cost performance of the projects and programs
  • Providing guidance and training to the project team, including project managers and construction managers, on the financial process, and project controls planning and implementation
  • Assisting in the preparation of project budget and forecast, including budget analysis
  • Assisting the manager in information gathering for KPI reporting
  • Ensuring consistent and standardized Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) are followed and reported
  • Assisting project managers and the project controls manager in preparing and reviewing project reports for external stakeholders
  • Seeking continuous improvement opportunities focused on changes to business practices and procedures to better reflect cost control and reporting needs
  • Collaborating with the project control team (Estimators and Schedulers) to build and implement a robust Project Control system and process
  • Building a positive relationship while providing support to the project team
  • Demonstrating a high performance, highly disciplined, achievementoriented, safetyconscious manner of working
What's required to be successful

  • 2year postsecondary diploma in Business, Finance or Accounting is required
  • 46 years of directly related experience in the area of project controls and data analytics
  • 12 years' knowledge of Primavera P6 is considered an asset
  • Understanding of EPCOR financial processes is considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of various decision support tools (MS Excel, MS Project, Oracle BI)
  • Familiarity with all phases of projects from inception to commissioning
  • Ability to frequently transition between working independently and supporting team initiatives
  • A keen attention to detail, resultsoriented demeanor and excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong research skills
  • Demonstrated strength in decision making and analytical ability. Ability to analyze situations and data, draw conclusions and develop a plan of action to address issues

  • Wage: Starting at $47.18 per hour (_Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and is based on a combination of factors as outlined in the_ _Collective Agreement._)
  • Hours of work: 80 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday
