About the Job


The Electrical Service Technician travels to our high-profile commercial and residential client locations across the GTA to perform diagnostic checks, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and general repairs to waste equipment such as compactors, balers, and garbage chute systems.

You will communicate directly with client users, operators, and employees to deliver a successful service visit.

While most of your work will be independently performed after a suitable training period, you will be collaborating with other technicians and support staff to deliver the best possible solution for our clients.


Location:
Service Technicians will have the option to take home the Metro Compactor company vehicle and be dispatched from their home location

Work Hours: 8am to 4:30pm | Over-time and On-Call required

What You Bring to the Table

  • Electrical schematic reading: Accurately interpret and read electrical schematics to diagnose issues and ensure effective operation of equipment.
  • Electrical troubleshooting: Utilize advanced electrical knowledge to identify, diagnose, and repair issues in waste and recycling equipment, ensuring mínimal downtime and maximizing equipment efficiency.
  • PLC Experience: Interface with, program, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) systems integral to the waste and recycling equipment. Understand the nuances and intricacies of PLCs to ensure optimal equipment function.
  • MUST be able to read and interpret schematics and conduct basic electrical troubleshooting.
  • Previous working experience on machinery, including Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems, or electrical controls.
  • Experience with limit switches, photoeye sensors, and/or solenoids.
  • Experience working with hand tools including drills, grinders, wrenches, hammers, and measurement tape.
  • Must be willing to travel to several locations throughout the day and work independently in a company vehicle.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, professional appearance, positive attitude, and a safetyfirst mindset
  • Valid 'œG' Driver's License with a clean abstract.
A Day in the Life

  • Start the day by reviewing your service schedule, ensuring that you're equipped with all the necessary parts and tools in your company vehicle.
  • Drive to customers at commercial or residential job sites and engage with the site contact to discuss any issues they're experiencing with their equipment.
  • Begin diagnostics on malfunctioning waste equipment, such as balers, compactors, or chute systems.
Conduct repairs or maintenance tasks for various issues such as:

adjusting sensor and component failures, operational issues, malfunctioning hydraulic pumps or motors, damaged hoses, and electrical problems (wiring issues, faulty switches, or relays), etc.


  • Document each service call, detailing the issues faced and the solutions provided, ensuring that any feedback or specific client requests are noted.
  • Address urgent calls, demonstrating your ability to manage unforeseen challenges and ensuring mínimal downtime for clients.
  • Engage with clients, providing them with updates on their equipment status, and advising on any further steps or care they should be aware of.
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed at every site, especially when working in varying weather conditions or near waste materials.
  • Leave each job site clean and free of debris to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction

Nice to Have (We will Train):

  • Industry experience repairing waste and recycling equipment
  • Basic Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) experience
  • Stick Arc Welding
Work Environment

Physical Demands:

While performing duties of this job, a technician would be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel.

Must be able to drive safely for periods of up to 2 to 3 hours at a time to reach job destinations.

Must be able to have manual dexterity to operate equipment and tools required on the job.

Note on Working Conditions:
Our technicians often operate in environments where waste is present. As such, it's crucial to be comfortable working near garbage and to always prioritize safety and cleanliness. Protective gear and adherence to health and safety guidelines are essential.
