Vice Principals, JK-GRADE 4 & Grades 5-8

The Leo Baeck Day School is a Reform Jewish day school committed to providing
academic excellence in a nurturing community. Leo Baeck is Canada's first Jewish IB School and is CAIS accredited with 600 students.

We are currently seeking two strong and effective leaders to take on the role of Vice Principal, JK-Grade 4 and Grade 5-8.


The Role:
The Vice Principal works closely with the Principal and other Senior Administrators.

The Vice Principal works with the Principal to support oversight of all aspects of school life, taking responsibility for providing direction and guidance for teachers and staff.

The Vice Principal engages with students, families and faculty to create a warm and vibrant school community.

  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum, Administration, or other relevant area
  • Proven leadership in current and innovative educational practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the International Baccalaureate Program
  • A strong commitment to school and community involvement
  • Knowledge of Jewish customs and traditions

Vice Principal Job Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Overall Responsibilities of the Vice Principal_
  • Communicate on a regular and timely basis with the Principal.
  • Promote the mission and vision of The Leo Baeck Day School.
  • Support development and implementation of the school's Strategic Plan and the School Improvement Plan.
  • Be responsible and accountable for all aspects of the functioning of their division.
  • Create a positive school culture among all stakeholders.
  • Be a role model for the community at all times.
  • Show good judgment, leadership skills, wisdom and integrity in all decisionmaking.
  • Pursue selfgrowth and professional development.
  • Remain aware of developments and trends in curriculum development and education.
  • Facilitate an environment to support the socialemotional learning of all stakeholders
  • Handle crisis situations rationally and calmly.
  • Communicate effectively, respectfully, and regularly with all stakeholders through a variety of modes (in
writing, formal meetings, presentations, informal conversations with all stakeholders).

  • Duties as assigned by the principal.
  • Student Support and Discipline_
  • Monitor and support student progress (academic, behavioural etc) and ensure that the social emotional
needs of all children are being met and liaise with the Dean of Student Services and Principal.

  • Ensure teachers are set up for success to meet the needs of individual learners.
  • Address and monitor student behaviour and discipline (with students, parents, teachers, principal etc.).
  • Respond to parents' questions and concerns regarding their children, staff or programming.
  • Be aware of and ensure that all physical health and medical needs of students are being met (allergies,
food intolerances etc.).

  • Coordinate and facilitate class placement and classplacement meetings to ensure that class groupings
are balanced and best meet the needs of individual students in collaboration with stakeholders.

  • Work with the Dean of Student Services to support teachers to deliver SEL curriculum (Advisory for
Middle School) and organize special programs and third party professionals (targeted grade SEL
workshops and social media programs) related to SEL.

  • Work with the Dean of Student Services on our SEL survey and data collection and analysis.
  • Ensure the effective running of clubs and cocurricular activities within the division
  • Support in the planning and implementing of all division events, including family celebrations and

ceremonies (eg:
outdoor skate lunch, MS ski day)
_ Supervision and Evaluation of Staff, Teaching and Learning_

  • Identify areas of need in the school or division and develop plans for improvement and school growth
  • Plan professional development and staff meetings with the administrative team
  • Participate and lead orientation of new personnel with the administrative team
  • Facilitate staff engagement in social emotional learning, and in developing consistent student behaviour
standards, routines and consequences.

  • Visit classrooms and observe teaching and learning on a regular basis and follow up with teachers.
  • Evaluation of teachers (non tenured teachers and Kadimah for tenured teachers)
  • Regular check ins with mentors and the mentees
  • Monitor class buddies schedule and programs.
  • School Management, Organization and Administration_
  • Create duty schedules
  • Attend and participate in scheduled team meetings, committee gathering etc. as needed
  • Share the supervision of yard duty
  • Share in reading and editing of progress reports
  • Coordinate special programs, days and events in collaboration with teachers, office staff and other
administration.

  • Liaise with the LBPA to ensure the smooth and efficient running of all LBPA programs.
  • Schedule field trips and special events and programs with teachers and administration
  • Book rehearsal and presentation
