Job Summary:


The Splicing Manager is responsible for the day-to-day splicing operations to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.

Experienced and competent in construction and splicing practices, this individual ensures safety and quality control, and delegates work as appropriate.

The Splicing Manager completes their own role independently or with mínimal guidance, and acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

The position is guided by department policies, resource requirements, budgets and the business plan.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for proper preparation and splicing of fiber optic cable within a telecommunications system with the ability to use OTDR and fusion splicing equipment; ability to read fiber matrix; ability to interpret and analyze data; and, ability to identify and troubleshoot problems
  • Ensures that site safety measures meet or exceed the parameters set out by corporate safety manuals and all regulatory boards and authorities
  • Monitors schedule within divisional scope on large projects and ensures milestones and completion dates are met
  • Recognizes and analyzes scheduling issues/delays and supports solution development
  • Estimates duration of activities and materials required for large multidiscipline estimates
  • Provides guidance and direction to field staff and coordinates resources within scope of control, adapting plans and setting priorities to meet operational objectives

Qualifications:


  • 24 years of construction experience as a Splicing lead, manager or in a similar direct supervisory role
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools and equipment utilized in splicing fiber
  • Ability to operate company vehicles and properly tow/backup trailers, work in a bucket truck, peoplelift, etc.
  • Solid understanding of current construction practices and familiarity with construction documents
  • Proven ability to guide safe work practices in a highpressure environment while maintaining project
- quality, schedule, and budget

  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders, interpret stakeholders' needs and identify solutions
  • Must be capable of handling logistics and crew assignments
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
