Literacy Assistant, LINC
(Full-time, contract until March 31, 2025)
Catholic Crosscultural Services (CCS) is a settlement agency providing a wide range of services to immigrants and refugees regardless of race, religion or status.
We are searching for a full-time Literacy Assistant, LINC to work with the LINC instructors to support Literacy and low-level students in the LINC Program.

What you will be doing:
Provide one-on-one and small group (2-3 students) support to students that are referred by LINC instructors in levels Literacy - CLB 1 to learn the English alphabet, improve writing, penmanship, reading and pronunciation skills
Provide language training and support to individual students with developmental and
learning disabilities
Help instructor in creating a conducive learning environment in the classroom by working with students that need extra support
Preparing learning materials for students who require extra support
In consultation with the instructor, design lessons plan for students with special needs
Participate in professional development sessions and actively utilize information to
enhance personal teaching skills
What are we looking for?
Related University degree or College Diploma related to teaching and TESOL membership
3 years' experience teaching English as a Second Language
Experience working with literacy students would be an asset
Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze, synthesize and disseminate pedagogical information
Strong interpersonal skills and awareness of newcomer issues
Working knowledge of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA)
Ability to work as a team with LINC Instructors and Lead Instructor
Ability to work with mínimal supervision

Scarborough, ON
Compensation:
$26.00 to $28.94 based on experience
Hours of work:35 hours per week, including evenings, weekends and occasional overtime as required
