The Program Assistant provides a wide-range of administrative support to the Office of Indigenous Education (OIE) and coordinates various activities related to the day-to-day operations of the Office.

The position provides clerical assistance and support for the Associate Dean, Indigeneity and Indigenous Education Reconciliation Council (IERC), including related initiatives, web and print publications, and events.

The role reviews and proofreads content produced for the OIE; submits purchase orders and expense claims; prepares and processes invoices; and arranges payment for vendors/suppliers.

The Program Assistant provides back-up support for the OIE staff as required.


Qualifications:


High school graduation and one year of post-secondary education or formal training in office administration, word processing, spreadsheet, proofreading/editing, project management, and office procedures.

3 years of minimum experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study ad experience is acceptable.

  • Excellent knowledge of standard office practices, methods and equipment.
  • Excellent knowledge of internet browsers.
  • Good knowledge of university regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and database at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to work accurately with figures.
  • Ability to compile information and prepare draft documents for approval.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work and complete a high volume of work within deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion.
  • 60 wpm keyboarding skill with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent attention to detail, proofreading and editing skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends if required.
