About the role


The Financial Analyst (FA) is a member of the Finance team, responsible for providing finance business partner support in one or more of the following divisions: Coke Ovens, Ironmaking, Steelmaking, Hot Strip Mill, Cold Rolled & Coated, Maintenance, Services and Utilities (MSU).

Reporting to the Division Controller, this is a highly visible and challenging position working with all levels within the enterprise.

We are looking for a highly motivated self-starter who is analytical and has excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with multiple teams within the enterprise.

The team will depend on the FA to drive standardization and efficiencies in budgeting, forecasting and analysis.

Your day-to-day:


General

  • Assist the division operational team in areas related to accounting, finance, financial reports and internal controls
  • Responsibilities which include:
- analyzing trends
- costs
- financial commitments
- obligations incurred to predict future expenses

  • Support annual business plan, period reforecasts and outlooks
  • Facilitate and/or assist with the division's financial and capital budgeting process
  • Recommends and implements programs to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, and reduce costs
  • Support the yearend external audit

Month End Close & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, ensuring IFRS compliance for the company
  • Prepare the monthly results of operation package and present findings at monthly meeting attended by executive management
  • Assist with costing of steel production and inventory in accordance with IFRS

Monitoring & Analysis

  • Monitors division operation results against operating plans and direct the preparation of financial, production output, and other reports used to measure and control division activities and costs.
  • Analyze past, current, and future trends in key performance indicators including yield, production volume and variable cost
  • Support the development and presentation of analysis to support executive management that includes proactive, appropriate, and insightful analysis and commentary on the enterprise
  • Develop adhoc financial analysis to improve decisionmaking and prioritization as needed

What you bring to the table

Job Qualifications:


  • Degree/diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Successful completion of, or working towards completing the Chartered Professional Accountant designation

Job Skills and Knowledge:


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to influence decisions and interact with all levels of management
  • Ability to clearly and consistently communicate sensitive, complex, or difficult information using simple terms and an appropriate style for the audience
  • Ability to analyze complex financial information and reports to provide accurate and timely financial recommendations to management for decisionmaking purposes
  • Ability to develop financial models and analyses to support strategic commercial initiatives
  • Ability to translate ideas into tangible action plans to help achieve critical business priorities; lead actions to improve or transform products, processes or systems to ensure they are efficient and effective; and proactively help to mitigate change implications and overcome resistance to change
  • Ability to question and challenge status quo to drive efficiencies and identify opportunities to enhance profitability
  • Ability to confront tough issues in a creative manner and leverage welldeveloped team relationships to assess and resolve issues
  • Ability to produce high quality workproduct in a timesensitive fashion
  • Ability to work independently and multitask
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
