***: ROM seeks three (3) experienced and enthusiastic Gallery Activation Leads to augment the Learning & Public Programs Department's Gallery Engagement Team during the summer, specifically for Free Main Floor programming.


As part of the Gallery Engagement team, these Leads will orchestrate enriching and interdisciplinary activities that animate the ROM's collection for families and visitors of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

Collaborating closely with the Senior Manager of Gallery Engagement and Gallery Activation Coordinator, the incumbents will provide supervision and assistance to Gallery Engagement staff, who deliver interactive activations in designated learning areas throughout the ROM during peak periods and special activation days.


RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance of the Senior Manager, Gallery Engagement, the incumbent collaborates with the Gallery Activation Coordinator to:

  • Assist Gallery Assistants in organizing activity stations within family galleries and learning spaces throughout the ROM.
  • Coordinate daily staff assignments and breaks, ensuring efficient operations.
  • Provide mentorship and direction in delivering engaging educational activations within the galleries.
  • Ensure staff deliver enjoyable, interactive, and enriching learning experiences for visitors spanning all age groups.
  • Develop and implement strategies to manage group flow throughout the museum, mitigating congestion and delays.
  • Supervise the handling of teaching materials, such as artifacts and specimens, ensuring proper usage and reporting any damages.
  • Manage the procurement, preparation, and distribution of craft supplies for activation areas.
  • Direct the setup and teardown of signage and resource materials essential for activations, including inventory management and feedback collection.
  • Address minor to moderate customer service concerns promptly, escalating major issues to Coordinators.
  • Navigate highpressure situations during peak attendance periods, including ROM for the Holiday, Family Day, and March Break programs, while maintaining program quality and visitor satisfaction.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of three (3) years of handson experience working with families and children in interactive museum, educational, art, or camp settings, with a focus on developing and delivering activities centered around art, culture, and nature.
  • Completion of at least two (2) years of postsecondary education in a museumrelated discipline, such as education, visual art, natural history, or world cultures, or equivalent experience and training.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in team leadership, including experience training and supervising staff, preferably within a unionized environment.
  • Proven track record in research, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Thorough understanding of lifelong learning principles and diverse learning styles.
  • Strong dedication to customer service, with a demonstrated ability in conflict resolution and problemsolving.
  • Experience in coordinating, recruiting, and/or training volunteers, interns, or other staff is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in setting up and dismantling signage and program materials.
  • Demonstrated initiative to thrive both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with a collaborative and positive approach.
  • Fluency in French or another language is beneficial.
  • Possession of lifeguard and/or first aid certification is an asset.
