What do you offer?


The Language Assessor is responsible for conducting language assessments in English using a variety of prescribed tools to determine the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of individuals, primarily eligible newcomers and immigrants.


Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • Conducting language assessments in English using a variety of prescribed tools to determine the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of newcomers and immigrants.
  • Making neutral, unbiased referral to language classes suiting the client based on the results of their assessment.
  • Completing necessary administrative work and data entry to make referrals and track activity.
  • Maintaining uptodate and accurate information about available language programs in the community.

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

Education

  • Postsecondary education or equivalent in a related field

Language

  • Fluent in English, oral and written

Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Possession of Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) or Teaching French as a Second Language (TFSL) certificate
  • Experience in teaching English as a second language and/or assessing English language benchmarks
  • Experience working with newcomers or immigrants, or working in a multicultural environment
  • Knowledge of immigrant language services and programs offered for newcomers to Canada
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office, online research, and data entry
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service skills

Additional Requirements:


  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required.
  • Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for the Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons, and submit the certificate of completion.
