The Principal Geophysicist is a multifaceted, experienced exploration professional with strong technical skills in applied geophysics, solid geological background, and broad experienced based from near mine to continental scales across a range of deposit types and commodities.

Confirmed leadership skills, a track record of discovery, and the ability to collaborate across the exploration group are imperative. Development and mentorship of earlier career geoscience professionals is also a critical component of the role.


Responsibilities:


  • Be a Courageous Safety Leader, adhere to and sponsor health, safety, community and environment policies, procedures, and systems, including emergency response plans and hazard and risk assessments.
  • Work closely with global commercial and evaluations personnel to prioritize opportunities for project capture.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of mineral system models, regional targeting frameworks, and innovative discovery leading practices.
  • Provide mentorship and training to the geophysical team toward their employee development and career planning.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in academic research and government geoscience initiatives related to mineral exploration geophysics.
  • As required, represent Teck at research institutions and projects and ensure accurate knowledge transfer and implementation of key results within projects.
  • Maintain a broad network of regional industry contacts for technical and commercial intelligence and promote Teck being a partner of choice to surface and capture new opportunities as they arise.
  • Build a culture of collaboration across all constituents and partners and encourage partnership and open communication.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 15 years of geoscience experience, including substantial focus on greenfield project generation, regional targeting, and exploration.
  • University degree in geoscience or a related field is required. A relevant, advanced degree (MSc or PhD) will be considered a strong asset.
  • Extensive experience with potential fields, induced polarization, electromagnetics and natural source methods.
  • Experience in sedimenthosted copper and zinc will be a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate geophysical data with geological observations
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively at a variety of scales (continent, district, and deposit).
  • Demonstrated experience of effectively leading, running and influencing people and teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Results oriented with excellent organizational, planning, management, and decisionmaking skills.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills and experience working with a broad range of people across diverse locations and cultures.
  • Ability to travel internationally for extended periods, with up to 20% travel annually.
  • Proficient spoken and written English language skills are required.
  • Eligibility to work in the local jurisdiction of the posting is required.
