Primary Objective of the Position:

This position is responsible for but not limited to managing Cargojet employees' compensation and benefits system.

Among the duties of the payroll administrator are ensuring the smooth operation of employee payment and carrying out other duties as required.

Complying with Canadian Labour Code legislation, company policies and procedures, and a thorough understanding of all payroll practices are required.


Essential Position Functions:


  • Responsible for the preparation and fullcycle processing of biweekly hourly and salary payroll.
  • Auditing of the hourly employee timecards, for accuracy and completeness, in the time and attendance system.
  • Oversees the proper and accurate processing and tracking of paid time off for all employees.
  • Import hours in time and attendance to the payroll system.
  • Assist in maintaining employee records and updating company information.
  • Inputting new hires, leaves, terminations, pay, and vacation adjustments.
  • Process ROEs and garnishments.
  • Prepare payroll reconciliation report.
  • Timely processing of all worker's compensation remittances and reports.
  • Ensure company compliance with Canada Labour Code legislation.
  • Support with yearend processing and reporting.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Shortand longterm disability claims management.
  • Responsible for updating all policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures for payroll.
  • Deliver instruction/training to employees regarding the use of payrollrelated systems including entry of timesheets, online access of pay statements, T4, etc.
  • Prepare and create various management reports and analysis.
  • Manage monthly billings from insurance providers and other vendors, including review of billings for accuracy.
  • Process monthend payments for benefits, pensions, RRSP, etc.
  • Ensure all employee files are up to date and complete.
  • Support the Human Resource team with ad hoc duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • 4+ years of payroll administration experience.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll programs and related taxation.
  • Payroll Software experience required experience using UKG Pro is an asset.
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity and professionalism when dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver results independently while working in a fastpaced environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
