TNO - THE NEIGHBOURHOOD ORGANIZATION (TNO, formerly _Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office_) is a community based multicultural, multi-service agency, which offers a broad range of programs to serve Thorncliffe Park, Flemingdon Park, and the surrounding communities through strengthening the quality of individual and community life through services, engagement, partnerships and advocacy.


Program Summary


The Road to Employment (RTE) program is designed for newcomers from Thorncliffe, Flemingdon Park and surrounding neighborhoods to identify and achieve their career and employment goals.

Program offers a robust verbal and non-verbal workplace communication training.

This program supports participants gain personal and professional success by using effective means of communication in the Canadian workplace.

The program aims to further enhance awareness and improve understanding of cultural differences in communication among professional especially newcomer women in the Canadian workplace.


Position Summary


The CNC Staff assists the day to day operations of the Road to Employment Program provided by TNO and also for the children and the environment in which they are in.

They must also critically ensure the health and safety of each individual child and be sensitive to their unique cultural heritage and values.


The CNC Staff ensures that services are provided with care, compassion with utmost professionalism and responsible for enabling adoption of best practices in service delivery and meeting TNO'S client bill of rights and anti-oppression framework.

The CNC Staff supports the children in attaining the goals set out for the Road to Employment Program.


Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safety of children in the care of CNC.
  • Prepares and maintains the program area (e.g. creative arts centre, cognitive area, dramatic play area).
  • Keeps attendance accurate.
  • Conducts fire drills and other health and safety procedures as required.
  • Maintains, cleans and disinfects children's toys, furniture and shelving area.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and hygiene of CNC spaces.
  • Be responsive to diverse cultural heritages, values and individual experiences
    .

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • At least a twoyear diploma in a child development program related to the ages
- of the children cared for or in a related field;

  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • One to two years experience working with children (19 months up to school aged)
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Sensitive to and understanding of the needs of children and their parents who are new to Canada.
  • Able to work as part of a team of childcare professionals.
  • Proficiency in the use of electronic toys and electrical appliances.
  • Ability to speak and written a second language is an asset.
  • Experience working with lowincome, multiracial, multilingual newcomer communities.

Working Conditions

Location - This position will be located within any of TNO's service locations based on community and program requirements. Locations for this position may be added or moved to new addresses in the future according to the community and program requirements.

Hiring Conditions

Vaccination Requirement - As a condition of employment, TNO requires all new hires to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 prior to the start date of employment. Applicants who have appropriate written proof of a medical reason, or a reason pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code for not being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, may provide such documentation to the Human Resources department for accommodation consideration.
