Part-time, Contract (Approximately 4 months)

When individuals in our community experience an urgent mental health or addictions crisis, they deserve a response that is person-centred and supportive, while focusing on personal dignity and wellbeing.

As Counsellor with the Crisis Call Diversion program, your role will involve working
in collaboration with callers in de-escalate, assess risk, provide crisis intervention, and refer callers to appropriate services.

Stationed at the Provincial Communications Centre, you'll work with call takers and dispatch to divert non-imminent risk mental health calls towards an appropriate mental health response.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

What you'll be making:

  • For this position, rate of pay is based on the individual's professional college registration status:
- $28.34 per hour, for those registered with the OCSWSSW (as an RSW), CNO (as an RN), COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO
- $23.79 per hour, for those registered with the OCSWSSW (as an RSSW), CNO (as RPN)
- $22.33 per hour, for all those not registered as above

  • The above are initial rates, with grid increases as per policy

When you'll work:

  • 38 hours biweekly; Rotating schedule which will include days, afternoons, evenings and weekend shifts

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

  • Establish a therapeutic relationship to maximize the benefits of engagement between the staff person and the client
  • Engage Emergency Services when it is determined that additional intervention is required
  • Assess the adequacy of resources/supports currently available to the client
  • Assess barriers to successful community living (e.g. treatment options, transportation, finances, etc.)
  • Advocate as necessary in order to facilitate access to services and supports with the objective of remediating immediate crisis situation
  • Have knowledge about community resources relevant to clients, including other mental health services, entitlement and benefit programs, (e.g. ODSP, Ontario Works, London Housing, etc.)
  • Assist the client to obtain needed resources by educating and supporting the client to access resources, linking the client to appropriate services, advocating with or for the client when needed
  • Provide telephone assistance to clients seeking support, facetoface appointments and/or information about mental health services & supports
  • Attend and actively participate in staff and group meetings
  • Contribute to a positive team environment and a welcoming and supportive environment for clients accessing services

_ Reach Out responsibilities:

  • Provide crisis intervention services and supports on the Reach Out Crisis line via phone, text and web chat
  • Establish a therapeutic relationship with callers to the Reach Out line, and work with these clients to address their immediate concerns

We require the following qualifications:
_**- Degree or diploma in a health or social science discipline
(primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e.

original degree/diploma or official transcript):


  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly

We prefer the following qualifications:
_**- Registration with a professional college (i.e. OCSWSSW, CNO, CRPO, CPSO, COTO, CPO)

  • Strong knowledge of appropriate mental health, addiction, problem gaming / gambling and other community resources for system navigation and referral
  • Ability to assess client level of risk
  • Demonstrated experience with risk assessments and crisis support
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act and PHIPA
  • Strong computer skills; ability to utilize basic Word and Excel documents
  • Certification in ASIST and First Aid/CPR
