Maintenance and Groundskeeper
DEPARTMENT:
Housekeeping and Maintenance

***: The General Maintenance & Groundskeeper reports directly to the Director, Executive and is responsible for the overall operations of the Maintenance department.
The General Maintenance & Groundskeeper ensures that the department provides a clean, sanitary and comfortable home environment for residents, team members, and the public.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job Responsibility #1:
MAINTENANCE SERVICES (55% of the time)
- Implements organization's mission as it relates to housekeeping and maintenance
- Performs repairs and building maintenance such as plaster and drywall, painting, replacing ceiling and floor times, and plumbing maintenance
- Performs grounds maintenance such as mowing lawns and trimming hedges
- Moves furniture or equipment within building as required for various activities or functions
- Ensures resident rooms, common areas and public spaces are cared for, clean, well maintained, inspected and meet Public Health requirements
- Attends to residents' requests for extra supplies
- Collaborates and liaises with team members to deliver maintenance services to residents
- Responds to maintenancerelated inquiries from residents
Job Responsibility #2:
JANITORIAL SERVICES (30% of the time)
- Sweeps and mops hallways, floors and stairs
- Empties trash receptacles and disposes trash into dumpster
- Cares for, cleans and maintains common areas and public spaces according to Public Health requirements
- Ensures all access areas are clean and safe by sweeping, shoveling, salting and sanding, as needed
- Stocks supply areas, including staff and visitors' washrooms
Job Responsibility #3:
SAFETY & SANITATION (5% of the time)
- Cleans and sanitizes common areas and public spaces according to Public Health requirements
- Ensures that all chemical products and hazardous materials are handled and stored, in accordance with safety requirements
- Ensures compliance with WHMIS and sanitation standards
- Keeps maintenance room in a stock, clean, and organized condition
Job Responsibility #4:
PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED (5% of the time)
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma and/or equivalent in experience
- WHMIS Certification
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 2 years of general maintenance experience
COMPETENCIES/PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
- Highly professional in approach
- Excellent time and priority management
- Ability to work well under pressure, handling multiple demands that are nonsequential
- Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Good judgment, analytical, and decisionmaking skills
- Flexible and adaptable; able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Keen attention to detail and selfmotivated
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Knowledge of proper safety techniques and procedures while using chemicals, power tools, hand tools and equipment
- Knowledge of safety regulations, requirements and procedures and Safety Data Sheets
- Knowledge of proper lifting techniques
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience within a Retirement Home or Long-Term Care setting
Compensation:
Commensurate with experience and qualifications
