Job Number:49449**Reporting to the Director of Communications, you'll use your political acumen, communications knowledge and outreach skills to support the Mayor and help implement the Mayor's short
- and long-term strategies.


Key responsibilities will include:
Staffing and Events

  • Staff the Mayor at inperson events, including on evenings and weekends
  • Create social media content at events, including photos, videos and text,
  • Collect information and notes from stakeholders at events and follow up as required
  • Ensure the Mayor is prepared for meetings and has relevant briefing materials
  • Help plan, organize and execute events, meetings and conferences
  • Provide support to the Communications Director and Outreach and Engagement Director within the Mayor's office
Communications and Outreach

  • Support the execution of the Mayor's communications and outreach plans, including by assisting in the development of key messages, briefs, and engagement strategies
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the community, and develop partnerships with key stakeholders to effectively and creatively communicate about the Mayor's agenda
  • Support the communications team in media relations
Strategy

  • Assist in the implementation of outreach and stakeholder relations strategies for the Office of the Mayor
  • Gather data on demographic and stakeholder outreach
  • Identify and assess emerging social media trends
  • Provide research and writing support to the Mayor's Office as required

Qualifications:


  • Education in a related field (Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline). A university degree is considered an asset
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a designated political, policy, communications, public relations, public affairs, public information, or related position, ideally within a large complex organization or working with elected officials
  • Demonstrated ability to gather technical information and translate it into accessible communications materials and communicate with the public
  • A proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver quality products and advice on time
  • Effective project management ability and ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities at work
  • Video editing experience is an asset
  • This position regularly has a weekday schedule; but frequent evening and weekend work is required
