Job Description Summary


UBC Extended Learning (ExL) brings UBC excellence in academics, teaching, and research to UBC communities through flexible, innovative, and accessible learning opportunities.

ExL welcomes thousands of lifelong learners from all over the world annually, and supports UBC faculties to create and deliver programming that meets the career and personal education learner needs while strengthening UBC s contribution to society, industry, and government.


The Manager, Program Marketing is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating integrated marketing campaigns that attract local and international learners to UBC for career and personal education.

As a member of the UBC Extended Learning (ExL) in-house marketing team, the position is responsible for managing campaign development and delivery, and providing exemplary client service to multiple career and personal education program teams both within Extended Learning and elsewhere in the university.

Organizational Status

The position reports to the Director, Marketing and is part of the ExL Marketing Team.

Works in direct partnership with both ExL and faculty program staff with high accountability for achieving marketing/enrolment objectives and campaign deliverables on behalf of those programs in a team-oriented, entrepreneurial environment.

The position is primarily located at the David Strangway Building on the UBC Vancouver campus. Will attend select offsite evening and weekend events related to student recruitment.

Work Performed

  • Provides exemplary client service to program staff as their daytoday marketing liaison.
  • Collaborates with program teams, Marketing Director and/or Associate Director, Marketing Strategy to identify KPI's and target audiences, develop marketing personas and take to market strategies, plans and tactics.
  • Responsible for project management of all aspects of campaign delivery, including entering projects, assigning tasks and monitoring progress using Wrike project management sytem. Ensures clear communication of creative briefs, take to market plans and tactical briefs to marketing team members responsible for specific project deliverables. Liaises with program staff for content and data requirements. Prepares campaign blocking charts, timing plans and budgets to execute activities.
  • Works with the marketing analyst or digital marketing team to analyze campaign results. Reports on campaign performance to determine success or opportunity for improvement for both marketing and programs.
  • Obtains proposals/quotes from and manages work assignments of external contractors (such as agencies or freelancers) working on program campaigns.
  • Researches and recommends new online and offline marketing opportunities.
  • Manages content on UBC Extended Learning websites in collaboration with marketing team members and program staff. Plans and publishes content and ongoing updates. Initiates reporting on site performance to ensure optimal conversion.
  • Briefs copywriter (when available) on content requirements, for for example: boilerplate copy, course descriptions, webpages, advertisements, brochures and special features (e.g., news items, interviews). Uses boilerplate to draft, review and edit copy when copywriter not available.
  • Collaborates with marketing team members and UBC Public Affairs to produce and distributes press releases to generate media coverage. Monitors media for current events, trends, and developments in competitors' program offerings and marketing campaigns.
  • Works with market research staff or vendors on projects such as focus groups, environmental scans and competitor analyses and assists with creation of reports for use in decision making.
