At WorkplaceNL we work with workers, employers, stakeholders and our community partners to provide occupational health and safety education and help prevent workplace injury and illness in Newfoundland and Labrador.
We also provide compensation and support to injured workers and their employers during recovery, rehabilitation and safe return to work.
The opportunity
We are currently looking for an experienced Auditor to work as a valuable team member in the Assessment Services Department.
You will be responsible for auditing client financial information and records in order to ensure compliance with the registration and reporting requirements of the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Act (the Act).
The Auditor will use their expert knowledge of the Act, internal policies and procedures, as well as generally accepted accounting principles in order to make independent audit decisions on behalf of WorkplaceNL.
More about the role
Some key responsibilities of the Auditor include:
- Prepares working papers, documentation, notes and system updates pertaining to the audits.
- Maintains integrity and adequacy of the WorkplaceNL injury fund through proper levying of assessments and reduces risk of exposure for under reporting and financial loss to the injury fund.
- Applies technical accounting knowledge, particularly as it relates to evolving business structures.
- Deals with complex and unique assessment issues, often not clearly outlined in the Act, or given policies and procedures.
- Performs audits in accordance with predetermined targets established by Audit Team Lead and Management
Ideal Qualifications (Experience and an educational equivalency will be considered)
- A degree from a recognized postsecondary institution with acceptable specialization in accounting and a minimum of three years' experience in financial accounting and/or auditing. A professional accounting designation would be considered an asset.
- Selfmotivated with the ability to take initiative and action to pursue goals and complete tasks
- Welldeveloped analytical, critical thinking, sound judgment, problem solving and decisionmaking skills, combined with a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Sound organizational, written, listening, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- A vehicle and valid driver's license is required.
