Description

Under the direction of the Assistant Controller, the Financial Analyst is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of divisional and/or departmental systems that promote sound financial processes and procedures with an emphasis on effective and efficient internal controls.

The Financial Analyst aides the Assistant Controller and Manager of Finance in overseeing the departmental forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning processes.


As the_Financial Analyst_
you will**:


  • Oversee the financial systems used by the Finance and Administrative Services Division to ensure functions are carried out as intended, according to policies and procedures, and completed on a timely basis.
  • Monitor usage of corporate (e.g. PeopleSoft financial modules) and department specific systems.
  • Participate in the development of business plans, budgets, financial forecasting and reporting.
  • Work with senior divisional and departmental staff to develop, implement, and maintain sound accounting processes, financial reporting systems, procedures and internal controls.
  • Assist in coordinating the departmental yearend processes and be responsible for all year end requirements for all direct reports and assigned portfolio.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor junior staff; build an effective team to provide effective and efficient, financial, internal customer support to assigned divisional portfolio.
  • Manage staff to ensure financial information is provided in a timely fashion and recorded in an efficient manner.
  • Perform performance evaluations on staff.
  • Work on other assigned special projects/initiatives, perform research, and other related duties consistent with the classification.
  • Act for the Assistant Controller when requested.

Your education and qualifications include:


  • Professional Accounting designation (CPA) in good standing is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Commerce with a Finance/Accounting Major or diploma in Business Administration is desirable.
  • A minimum of four (4) years related accounting experience.
  • Must have at least one (1) year direct experience in the development and preparation of comprehensive budgets and financial analysis.
  • Experience in a supervisory role is required.
  • Ability to understand and analyze government policy.
  • PeopleSoft experience (i.e. Purchasing, Payables, General Ledger, and Budget modules), REPA, and Cognos knowledge would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management abilities with proven knowledge of administrative practices, skills, and concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and subordinates and in a respectful, cooperative team environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and ensure adherence to strict deadlines.
