Youth Minister


The Roman Catholic Diocese of Hamilton, established in 1856, is the second largest diocese in English speaking Canada and serves the needs of more than 626,000 Roman Catholics, throughout Southwestern Ontario.

St. Ambrose Parish in Cambridge is looking to hire a full-time youth minister (35 hours/week). It will be a 1-year contract renewable year by year.

The successful applicant will be required to establish and run a youth group for grade school students and a separate youth group for High School students.

The job will also require visiting in schools during the daytime as well as running the youth groups on a weeknight or Saturday evenings.

The summer hours will be part-time. This position offers a competitive rate of pay with benefits and requires a commitment to work flexible hours.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop a culture of youth involvement and engagement in the parish, through creative program development and execution
  • Ministry to families, with a focus on intergenerational ministry
  • Work with parish schools and sacramental preparation
  • Coordinate Vacation Bible Camp
  • Participate in Pastoral Council meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by the Pastor

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Actively practicing, enthusiastic Catholic, with a heart for evangelization
  • Good knowledge of the Catholic faithhigher education in theology preferred
  • Formal formation or education in Catholic Youth Ministry, or the intention to pursue a Certificate in Youth Ministry.
  • Previous Experience with evangelization and catechesis of young people.
  • Understanding of sacramental formation
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with the Pastor, parish staff, school staff, volunteers, and parish community

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills: ability to organize, delegate and act as facilitator in groups
  • Comfortable praying with and for others
  • Strong social media skills
  • Good knowledge of computer skills to reach out to youth and evangelize.
  • Be knowledgeable of and act in compliance with the Child and Family Services Act
