Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking an Investigation Coordinator for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Office of General Counsel.

Reporting to the Strategic Coordinator of Investigations, you will provide administrative support and collaborate with internal units' designated representatives regarding critical investigations into various internal matters, provide support and ensure alignment with the Investigative Framework.

You will coordinate the investigation intake documentation and records management process and support training staff who conduct investigations within the University, including Human Resources (HR), Student Affairs and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE).

Accordingly, you will be entrusted with confidential information on a regular basis and may also participate in investigations, as requested.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and support the development of the Framework and Investigation Program and design, develop, and implement procedures relating to the Investigation Framework for individuals involved in the investigation process at MacEwan to promote a broader and higher level of shared understanding throughout.
  • Conduct research and environmental scans on best training practices, technological advances, and new methodologies and philosophies on investigative practices.
  • Serve as an intake officer to receive initial complaints and routes to the appropriate area (i.e., HR, Student Affairs, HSE) for investigation as required.
  • Regular involvement with handling sensitive and confidential labour relations and student information relating to all types of investigations at the University.
  • Provide administrative support and duties to the program and the Strategic Coordinator of Investigations.

SKILLS

You will have:

  • Demonstrated high level of integrity and ethical code, confidentiality and professionalism, particularly when dealing with sensitive investigations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts, legal considerations, and approaches relevant to investigations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact and communicate effectively with employees at all institution levels.
  • Demonstrated sound and independent judgment and discretion; objectivity, openmindedness, inclusiveness and avoidance of bias or the perception thereof.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, problem solving and decisionmaking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Selfmotivated, detailoriented, and highly organized.
  • Ability to operate effectively with little supervision to achieve milestones and deadlines independently.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office suite, with advanced experience with Excel and Forms.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a diploma in Investigative Studies, Police Studies, Human Resources (Workplace Investigations) or a related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum three years of experience conducting various policy, regulatory, jurisdictional, workplace, and/or criminal investigations/reviews and handling threat management situations.
