Burnside is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to join our Linear Infrastructure team at R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside).


The primary focus of this position will be overseeing and providing direction for the design, approval and construction administration of municipal linear infrastructure (i.e., watermains, sanitary sewers and forcemains).

This is a technical role for an individual who has 'attention to detail' and a knack for coordinating and overseeing the completion detailed designs, accompanying reports and tender packages.

As Senior Project Manager, strong communication and people skills are critical, as is the ability to effectively manage resources and project budgets.


Role Specifics
Reporting to a GTA Client Leader the position will involve carrying out the following tasks:

  • Project and client management responsibility for a variety of linear infrastructure projects;
  • Assisting in the planning, study, design, approval and construction administration of linear infrastructure projects involving local servicing as well as larger, transmission and conveyance infrastructure utilizing a variety of construction methods (i.e. opencut, trenchless);
  • Working closely with design teams and supporting/directing other engineers and technicians in the production of preliminary and detailed design drawings and preparation of related reports, coordination of approvals, development of construction cost estimates, and liaising with clients, subconsultants and contractors;
  • Supporting construction inspectors in the field and contract administrators in the office to become familiar with construction techniques and adapt to unexpected challenges encountered during construction;
  • Working under the guidance of senior project managers and management staff across the company to further develop project management and technical skills;
  • Collaborating with and contributing to project teams (sometimes across other offices) to ensure successful project delivery meeting the client's needs;
  • Mentoring and assisting in the development of engineering students, engineersintraining and junior project engineers/technologists; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Professional Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

The following qualifications, experience and skills are required:

  • An engineering degree in a related discipline;
  • A minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience with municipal linear infrastructure design, project management, contract administration and client relationships;
  • At least 5 years experience in Canada in water supply and sanitation projects, along with 5 plus years of international Project management experience;
  • Knowledge of municipal and provincial approval processes and relevant agency and industry standards, guidelines and best practices;
  • Strong communication, written and analytical skills; and
  • Excellent organization and project management skills with the ability to multitask and work on a number of projects concurrently.

The following experience and skills are considered assets:

  • Understanding of and/or experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and MicroStation;
  • MS Office and MS Project.
  • Experience with trenchless construction (e.g., horizontal auger boring, horizontal directional drilling, microtunneling, etc.)

Wages:
$65-70/hour (depending on experience)
