Position Overview
General responsibilities for Summer Research Assistants involve laboratory and field support for research activities ongoing in the AGRG.

Specifically, as a team with other students who are conducting research in the use of remote sensing and GIS for restoration of linear features in the Boreal forest.

The work will be supervised and assigned by graduate students and researchers in AGRG.


Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities:


  • Assist with vegetation surveys, drone flights, and RTK surveys in remote field locations in northern Alberta
  • Help with geospatial data analysis in the lab
  • Support field logistics and preparation/maintenance of equipment
  • Establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community

Qualifications / Requirements:


  • Coursework and/or practical experience with remote sensing, GIS, GNSS, and vegetation identification
  • Familiarity with geospatial programs like ArcGIS, LASTools, and ENVI and/or fieldsurvey survey equipment like drones and RTK would be an advantage
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license (cannot be a graduated license) with proven good driving record (abstract required).
  • Ability to manage own time effectively and ensure immediate reportsto manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
  • Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn on the job
