Qualifications:


  • PhD in viral ecology, microbial ecology, microbiology, virology, biological oceanography or a closely related field, with minimum 5 years postdoctoral experience
  • Strong laboratory skills in molecular biology, virology, microbiology, processing samples for RNASeq and flow cytometry
  • Experience in sample processing and library preparation for genomic, metagenomic and metatranscriptomic sequencing of viral, microbial and tissue samples
  • Expertise and practical experience in analysis of large datasets from genomic, metagenomic, metatranscriptomic sequences for viral and cellular sequencing data
  • Strong expertise in bioinformatics, practical experience in building analysis pipelines for metagenome and metatranscriptome data.
  • Proficiency using bioinformatics tools in environmental microbiology and virology, with the ability to develop bioinformatic pipelines using Python and UNIX for diverse types of sequencing data
  • Proven ability to develop or implement machine learning approaches
  • Proficiency in statistical languages such as R to develop statistical models and process remote sensing data
  • Proven experience in marine field work, collecting and analysing oceanographic data
  • Ability to develop innovative and realistic/deliverable solutions to problems
  • Hold a valid BC driver's license
  • Ability to do field work, and work in remote locations for extended periods
