The Department of History provides University students, faculty and staff with innovative and creative research and educational opportunities in History.

We engage diverse, interested and enthusiastic students and internationally renowned faculty in unique learning opportunities in undergraduate, graduate and post graduate studies.


Responsibilities:


The Assistant Curator's key responsibilities are:

  • Research the history of medicine, including archival and material culture sources and conducting oral interviews with physicians, to contextualize the Medical Artifact Collection holdings
  • Integrate research into PastPerfect artifact database
  • Disseminate research through conference papers, publications, and an exhibit

Qualifications

Education:


  • Masters in History, preferably with a focus on the history of medicine in Canada

Experience:


  • Minimum of 3 years of experience and training in archival research
  • Experience and training in oral history including university ethics
  • Knowledge of the methodology of combining oral history and the history of medicine
  • Minimum of 3 years experience researching material culture in the history of medicine
  • Minimum of 3 years experience handling medical history objects
  • Minimum of 3 years experience integrating historical research into PastPerfect software
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in exhibition development and installation

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

  • Proven ability to perform historical research; collections management; exhibit development; oral history; social media; writing for and speaking to the public
  • Demonstrated digital skills, such as social media, digitization software, Audacity, MS Word, Powerpoint, Cascade, and PastPerfect
  • Passionate about exploring the past through artifacts and disseminating information to the public
  • Ability to follow processes and practices with high attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability and natural inclination to interact with people in professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
  • A strong record of working in a team environment, as well as the ability to work independently with little supervision and a desire to achieve results
