Job Profile Description

  • Prepares and sends binding correspondences and proofs outgoing correspondences for adherence to company standards to ensure the team remains compliant.
  • Determines rate adjustments for some policies with existing coverage, applies terms and reviews new business quotations received from plan advisors/brokers/underwriters.
  • Runs predefined statistical reports for underwriting managers and sets up and issues policies per underwriter instructions.
  • Processes and invoices computer generated policies and assembles them in accordance with departmental standards to ensure the team remains compliant.
  • Prepares monthly renewal and anniversary reports for managers to determine new and existing business opportunities.
  • Prepares standard instruction form for issuance of policy documents to support the underwriting team.

Underwriting Assistant

  • The position is an essential clientfacing role in the company and provides colleagues with the opportunity to develop their administrative skills and insurance industry experience within various segments of the Technical Services Department.
  • The Technical Services Department in Ottawa consists of approximately 25 individuals with a wide variety of experience and backgrounds. We work directly with Management, Accounting, Business Analysts, and Information Systems Support on a regular basis.
  • You will work with a team of other Underwriting Assistants to create, deliver, and maintain insurance policies for various Underwriting departments both accurately and within standard turnaround times. Your Department Manager and Team Leaders will serve as mentors and coaches as you learn about how to provide our clients with support and enhanced service.

We will count on you to:

  • Prepare and send binding correspondence, review standard instructions for issuance of policy documents and mid-term servicing in adherence to company standards
  • Receive direction from the Underwriter on policy issuance and maintenance of automatic renewal book of business
  • Process and invoice computer generated policies in accordance with departmental standards
  • Follow up on outstanding requests such as signature endorsements, financials, accounts receivables, etc.
  • Adhere to strict underwriting guidelines and turnaround times
  • Maintain current knowledge of department procedures and practices
  • Respond to client inquiries in a prompt and professional manner

What you need to have:


  • Postsecondary education preferably in Business Administration or Office Administration
  • One to two years of working experience in a customer service oriented environment or equivalent combination of skills and experience
  • Knowledge of MS Office products, specifically Word and Excel
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Strong organization skills with a high attention to detail
  • Effective communicator (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to multitask; strong time management skills

Salary:
$90.00 per hour


Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Experience:

- technical writing: 2 years (preferred)
