As a Park Ranger you will be an integral part of our team by assisting with the hands-on day-to-day operations of the park, including enforcement, maintenance, health & safety, and supervisory duties.

What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role you will:

  • Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Parks Operations Manager, lead and coordinate the day-to-day park operations of the campground and/or beach, including all administrative and maintenance functions, e.g., scheduling, assigning work, monitoring, and auditing work performance.
  • Prepare the annual work plan, identifying priorities, setting targets and coordinating resources to
  • Train, supervise and identify performance and misconduct issues for seasonal staff and students, advising
  • Oversee park enforcement functions, ensuring staff follow proper security procedures and ensure the safety of visitors and staff.
  • Respond to first aid emergencies and oversee inhouse training programs for emergency procedures for all
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, its regulations, and the Employer's occupational health and safety policies and complete assigned audits and inspections.
  • Embody the SLPC's equity, diversity and inclusion principles while interacting with staff and guests.

How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:


  • Successful completion of the Provincial Offences Officer designation within one year of date of hire.
  • Valid emergency first aid and CPR certificate or ability to obtain.
  • A willingness to work variable shifts including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:


You have:


  • Thorough knowledge of park operations (dayuse, campground, beaches, and registration).
  • Knowledge of resource management practices and ability to interpret and enforce legislation applicable to park management (e.g., St. Lawrence Parks Act and associated regulations, Trespass to Property Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act).
  • Knowledge of park enforcement functions, corresponding legislation, and regulations to ensure staff follow proper security procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience with grounds and buildings maintenance, general construction, and trails maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of semiskilled tasks usually associated with skilled trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical.
  • Knowledge of, experience with, and the ability to operate, maintain and perform minor repairs to a variety of light powered equipment (e.g. chainsaws, brush cutters, lawnmowers, utility terrain vehicles (UTV), tractors and small hand tools, etc.).
  • Knowledge of store concessions to oversee the supervision, tracking and operation of retail concessions.
  • Ability to promote, foster and support a safe working environment for all staff that includes working in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, its regulations, and the Employer's occupational health and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines when performing supervisory responsibilities.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:


You have:


  • Well developed communication skills to enforce park rules and regulations and to provide accurate information to staff, service providers and visitors.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) to prepare reports and correspondence regarding park operations and respond to customer inquiries and complaints tactfully and with discretion.

LEADERSHIP, PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS:


You have:


  • Proven leadership skills to provide team leadership to a variety of park staff.
  • Proven supervisory skills to lead the daytoday operations and to ensure park operational needs are met.
  • The ability to motivate, train and work as a team member.
  • The ability to oversee and coordinate the staging of all special events.
