We increased awareness and understanding of mental health, mental illness, recovery, and suicide prevention through education.

We support the resilience and recovery of people in distress including those affected by mental illness or suicide by providing crisis intervention; safe, long-term, and affordable housing; peer support; suicide grief and family support; information and referral support; and providing opportunities to improve your wellness.


Job Summary:


Key Responsibilities:


_ Internal Communications__:

_**- Work with the Executive and Management teams to ensure key program milestones and new initiatives are captured and shared in a timely manner with all staff.


  • Engage all staff in information sharing and ensure dissemination to keep staff and volunteers apprised of the agency's work.

_ Content and

Key Message Development:
_


  • Holds primary responsibility for drafting key messages and written content that describes and promotes the agency, its programs, and activities.
  • Develop speaking notes, briefing notes, and additional supporting content for staff and board leadership as required.
  • Holds primary responsibility for drafting significant written documents, such as the agency's Annual Report.

_ Media Relations:
_


  • Produce media releases and other content to support media outreach and engagement.
  • Serve as a primary contact point for media inquiries.
  • Develop key messages and prepare agency spokespeople for media appearances.

_ Grant__s Support:

_**- Support the Manager, Fund Development and Communications in researching and identifying opportunities for support through government, foundation, and corporate grants.


_ Fundraising and Sponsorship Support:
_


  • Work with the Fund Development Coordinator to produce donor appeal letters, and support the creation of additional solicitation materials, as part of agency fundraising campaigns.
  • Holds primary responsibility for drafting written content for sponsorship materials and other fundraising solicitation pieces.

_ Event Support:
_


  • Develop key messages and written content to support marketing material and promotion of agency signature events.

_ Administrative Support:
_


  • Provide administrative support, such as meeting scheduling, agenda, and materials preparation, as required.

_ Additional Duties:
_


  • Other duties may be required from time to time.

Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary degree or diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Education in communications, public relations, or journalism is an asset.
  • Ideally 12 years of communications and/or fund development experience or previous related volunteer work, is preferred.
  • Exceptional writing skills.
  • Ability to think critically to develop key messages and identify opportunities to promote the agency and its program.
  • Research skills that support seeking out and identifying grant and other funding opportunities.
  • An appreciation for and minimum basic ability to work with design platforms such as Canva and to produce appealing and engaging documents for supporters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational and timemanagement skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with persons with lived experience, and an appreciation for their life experience and perspective.
  • Membership in a professional association, such as the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS), or International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) is an asset.

Working Conditions:


This role is eligible for hybrid work, with the requirement to be on site for events and related initiatives as required beyond the normal in-office schedule.

The role may also be required to travel for in-person meetings and events from time-to-time.
