Description
The Assistant Manager of Correctional Programs coordinates all aspects of a community service program and supervises staff.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Acts as a team leader and provides direct supervision to program staff; participates in hiring, orientating, training, evaluating, disciplining and terminating in consultation with the Correctional Programs Manager or designate; schedules staff to meet program needs and any government contracts; deals with complaints/grievances
Plans, coordinates, develops and implements all program areas and requirements, including the expansion of services as appropriate, according to Salvation Army Standards and the program model established
Develops and maintains favourable working relationships with community placements, agencies and or volunteers
Manages referrals, processes intakes and determines appropriate client placement and discharge; ensures compliance with all Legal status and mandates and any required contractual agreements
Establishes and maintains secure record keeping and retrieval system pertaining to clients and placement agencies in compliance with applicable government and Salvation Army policies and procedures; provides reports to government and Salvation Army departments
Ensures the safety of clients, staff and stakeholders and report incidents immediately to the direct supervisor
Determines case load for direct reports
Performs other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:


Education/Certifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Criminology/Psychology/Social Work


Experience:

One year of prior related experience, including experience working with adults in an institutional or residential setting and experience supervising staff


Required Skills/Knowledge:

Willingness to adhere to the Mission and Values of The Salvation Army and Vancouver Harbour Light
Must have an understanding of and be comfortable with the Criminal Justice System and have an ability to work with individuals with a diverse criminal background
Knowledge of addictions, homelessness, poverty issues, and has a practical knowledge of life skills
Must have the ability to communicate effectively with a non-judgmental attitude
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills as well as organization and administration skills
Must be computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office
Willingness to work in a drug and alcohol-free environment
Qualify for and be willing to obtain enhanced security clearance
Current Certification in Basic First Aid and CPR would be considered an asset


PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and document creation
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and a variety of demands in a fast-paced environment
Flexible, self-motivated, adaptable
Promotes effective communication and encourages team engagement

Current Certification in First Aid/CPR, Mental Health First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Motivational Interviewing would be considered an asset.

A clean drivers abstract.
Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
