Technical Services Department (TSD) Manager
Location:
Edmonton, Alberta
This position will be responsible for the following functional groups and areas of responsibility: Shipping & Receiving, Cylinder Cleaning, Retains, Waste Disposal, Supplies, Facilities, Portable Labs, and Service Contracts.
Key Accountability/Responsibilities:
With efficiency and results as main priorities, the TSD Manager would be accountable for maximizing return on financial assets and services by establishing dedicated day-to-day monitoring practices, procedures, controls, and reporting systems for all related transactions across all areas of responsibility.
- Dedicated daytoday scrutiny and bookkeeping of assigned revenue streams to identify invoicing gaps
- Actively look for and capture savings opportunities and added value opportunities when possible
- Reclassification/reallocation of expenses and costs
- Develop and oversee all safety programs, inspections, protocols, and checks for all areas of responsibility
- Generate and execute necessary corrective action items for safety, quality, and production nonconformances
- Actively contribute to special projects inhouse or external
- Develop, improve and issue timely weekly, monthly and other periodic status reports for every activity
- Daily compilation and processing of reports from all applicable areas
- Frequent interactions and reconciliations with Financial Analysts, Customer Service Team, vendors, providers, and A/P
- Courier invoicing coding
- Writing/composing procedures and documents
- Monitor results of operation improvement initiatives
- Creation and analysis of KPIs
- Regular report generation to senior management
- Other crossfunctional duties as required
Leadership
- Day to day supervision of staff, including setting objectives, evaluating performance and expectations, working jointly with employees to insure adequate training is provided
- Act as a point of escalation for the Technical Services departments
- Track and maintain budgetary guidelines in coordination with the Senior Laboratory Manager
- Assist in preparing annual operating budget
- Monitor operating expenses
- Provide information, instructions, and assistance to all staff in order to protect the health and safety of our employees
- Understand and enforce our EHS Policy as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Provide all staff with proper, wellmaintained equipment, plus any other special personal protective devices which may be required
- Participate in monthly worksite inspections of their area
- Ensure hazard assessments and critical task analyses are done within their area of responsibility
- Act as a positive change agent in supporting Bureau Veritas's new initiatives (operational and cultural)
- Participate/perform, department and health and safety meetings
- Participate/perform, when requested, in internal and external audits
- Maintain training records and relevant qualifications
Skills and Knowledge:
- Postsecondary education / University Degree. Preferably in Chemistry, Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or equivalent
- Demonstrated 510 years of experience in leadership roles with more than 10 direct reports
- Experience in implementing Maintenance Programs. Background in Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) is considered an asset
- Familiarity with Project Management methodologies
- Mechanically inclined and able to intervene in equipment diagnosis and repairs
- Strong team building, training, and coaching skills
- Outstanding problem solver with extreme attention to details
- Sound understanding of financial statements, forecasts and general ledger (GL) functions
- Proven capability of thorough and consistent follow up of all moving parts impacting each activity
- Exceptionally goal oriented while able to multitask
- Numeracy: Able to compile, manipulate and analyze large volumes of complex Data
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Advanced computer skills
- Advanced user of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel
- Ability to consolidate information and data into meaningful and condensed Reports for Management use
- Effective and persuasive presentation skills on controversial or complex topics
