SUMMARY


Under the authority of the Facility Director, the Unit Manager administers and manages all clinical activities of the program for which he or she is responsible and ensures, on a daily basis, the safety and well-being of all residents and employees under his or her responsibility.


RESPONSIBILITIES
As part of his or her duties, the Unit Manager:

  • Ensures that the safety and well-being of users and employees under his or her authority always take priority, in all tasks performed, actions taken and documents prepared;
  • Ensures that all work performed by employees, interns, volunteers, contractors and others under his responsibility is focused on the welfare and safety of residents and their families;
  • Ensures that the safety and wellbeing of residents and staff under his/her responsibility is always the priority in all tasks performed, actions taken and decisions made;
  • Ensures vigilance in regards to the safety of employees and residents, reports any dangerous situation and/or any accident or incident involving an employee or resident;
  • Analyzes, evaluates and improves the quality of services and care provided to residents and their families within the programs under his responsibility and ensures that the quality of care offered is adequate and complies with the organization's existing policies and procedures;
Clinical Component

  • Reads the daily logs, ensures the completion of the actions listed and implements actions if necessary;
  • Plans and participates in meetings concerning the residents and gives their approval for the resident's departure from the centre;
  • Supervises entries and exits of residents;
  • Regularly attends group meetings led by counsellors under his supervision to be able to assess the quality of group meetings;
  • Plans, establishes and leads group or team clinical supervisions;
  • Maintains close relationships and conducts interventions with various internal and external members who are significant to the case (family, social worker, doctor and nurse involved in the resident's case file);
  • Plans, manages and participates in emergency interventions required in crisis situations;
  • Plans and participates in activities with the Portage Resident's Committee;
  • Plans, participates, develops and creates new clinical activities;
Administrative Component

  • Ensures that all the resident's files are kept in accordance with Portage's policies and procedures;
  • Performs daily site inspection;
  • Responsible for planning schedules and counsellors' hours according to the needs of the therapeutic community;
  • Supervises employees on a continuous basis: conducts group and individual meetings with employees under their supervision, documents employee records, writes supervision reports and performance appraisals as well as opening and closing files;
  • Supervises, supports and oversees interns and volunteers under his responsibility;
  • Acts as a "mentor" to the employees under his responsibility and provides them with support and training when necessary;
  • With the collaboration of the Facility Director, the Unit Manager determines and applies disciplinary measures for residents and employees;
  • Assists the Director in performing his mandates;
  • Fulfills any other related task at the request of his or her immediate supervisor.

REQUIRED PROFILE

  • Hold a high school diploma, certificate in substance abuse or another relevant degree;
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as a clinical counsellor or in a similar position in a rehabilitation center;
  • Knowledge and experience in management and supervision of employees;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team;
  • Autonomy and good organizational skills;
  • Experience in crisis management and with appropriate response skills;
  • Excellent communication skills.

ADDITION INFORMATION

Job Type: Full-time permanent position (37.5 hours per week)

Schedule: Monday to Friday, day and evening shift (on rotation) with possibility of weekends

Salary: to be discussed according to experience
