Nutrition Program Support - Oakville, Canada - Sheridan College
Description
Under the direction of the Centre Supervisor, following guidelines as outlined in the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), Regional Health Department, and the centre's policy manual, the incumbent meets program requirements pertaining to food services by planning, preparing, and serving nutritional meals for childcare centre children.
The incumbent is also responsible for the organization and maintenance of the kitchen, assisting with supervision of children and completing housekeeping duties as required.
What You'll be DoingPlanning menus and preparing a daily hot lunch, two snacks per day, for all children enrolled, with consideration to Canada's Food Guide;
Collaborating with the Supervisor to complete purchases and/or arrange weekly delivery for pickup;
Ensuring food supplies are properly stored and cooked to avoid contamination and to minimize waste as per food handling requirements;
Preparing food with centre staff for special functions (holiday parties, parent meetings etc.);
Maintaining housekeeping and sanitary standards on a daily basis, as required by the Department of Public Health, the CCEYA and centre policy and practice;
Ensuring that kitchen equipment is functioning properly and reporting maintenance needs as they occur;
Assisting in the supervision of children in classroom or playground as needed;
Performing other related duties as required.
About You
You have the skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population as well as a proven commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion.
Up to 1 year of cooking experience in a large group institutional setting or childcare facility.
Completed courses related to cooking/nutrition and kitchen sanitation would be an asset.
Experience working with young children years) would be an asset.
