Description
The position reports to the HSE Manager and is responsible for ensuring the safety legislation and guidelines are followed. The incumbent will travel to worksites and assess/audit how employees and equipment are operating. The HSE Advisor will utilize strategic and interpersonal skills to work with all employees and the management team.Responsibilities:
- Provide advice and consultation on health, safety, and environmental concerns at all projects in Ontario
- Enforce health and safety program, policies, and procedures with all personnel on the project, including subcontractors and visitors
- Help develop sitespecific site practices that comply with legislative requirements
- Investigate all near misses, incidents, and accidents at worksites
- Onboard new employees, contractors, and subtrades and review in detail the procedures and safety instructions before the start of work
- Support the HSE Manager in collecting and tracking all safety related documentation and metrics
- Assist with health and safety inspections, audits, and reports for various worksites
- Perform an audit once per month as a minimum for each project
- Identify hazards on site and report to the supervisors; follow up to ensure hazards have been corrected
- Hold safety meetings to discuss hazards, Ministry of Labour reports, noncompliance, etc.
- Facilitate the joint health and safety meetings
- Assist with facilitating required health and safety training for all employees
- Assist and support the creation of health and safety strategies and new initiatives
- Assist in creating modified work and accommodations for individuals returning to work from illness or injury
- Complete physical demands analysis for positions as needed
- Management of injury claims and reporting as assigned
- Maintain accurate and up to date health and safety records for the organization in Ontario
- Be an active member of the JHSC
- Liaison between all employees and managers in Ontario, subtrades, and Ministry
- Perform any other related task related to the position
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in a similar position
- Strong knowledge of provincial safety regulations and worker's compensation legislation (including the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board)
- Knowledge of the Construction industry and equipment used
- Experience field auditing and investigating incidents
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Organized with excellent time management skills
- Ability to handle stress and resolve conflicts
- Punctual and reliable with a professional attitude
