We are hiring a
Clinical Instructor at our New Westminster campus in BC.

The Clinical Instructor will provide guidance and leadership to students of the Health Care Assistant Program through sharing their clinical knowledge and skills in accordance with the program's course outlines, lesson plans, policies, and procedures.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


  • The Clinical Instructor reports to the Health Care Program Lead.
  • Provide instructions to students in a classroom setting (theory), laboratory setting and education practice sites (practicum).
  • Mark/grade and check work, projects, and tests/quizzes according to guidelines.
  • Facilitate course evaluation/feedback process from students.
  • Monitor and report student progress and/or issues to the HCP Lead during regular meetings
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with others at various levels of the organization.

A) Classroom (theory) and laboratory:

  • Provide instructions according to the HCA program schedule.
  • Review objectives and the lesson plan prior to teaching a class.
  • Prepare classroom and laboratory prior to classes.
  • Check inventory of laboratory supplies and follow the procedure on ordering as needed
  • Serve as a 'resource' person for students
  • Promote a respectful environment during theory and laboratory practice

B) Clinical (multi-level complex care:

  • Provide site orientations to students
  • Act as a campus liaison for students and clinical staff
  • Provide guidance to students who require support during clinical practice.
  • Ensure a safe environment for students and report to the HCP Lead any unsafe situations that would affect
  • Ensure students follow the required standard of infection control when providing care to clients/patients.
  • Ensure all supplies and materials are available for the students.
  • Ensure students observe a high standard of confidentiality when providing care to clients/patients, education practice site staff and clients' families.
  • Prepare and review evaluations with students
  • Ensure that all evaluations and documentation are completed and submitted to the campus

Education and Qualifications:


  • Current full (practicing) registration with the BCCNM as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Nonpracticing registration is acceptable for the classroom (theory) teaching ONLY.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners (i.e. completion of Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent education or previous teaching experience with satisfactory references or positive performance evaluations and student course evaluations); and
  • Two or more years of fulltime Canadian nursing experience (1 year = 1400 hours) with relevant knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system, the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members and current policies and procedures within residential and community care settings.
  • Experience in working with older adults with complex health needs.
  • Experience or orientation inhome support and multilevel/complex care.
  • Bachelor's degree or above in a relevant field with a record of professional accomplishment in academia or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous teaching experience in an academic setting is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in English.
  • Team player with a clientcentric mindset and positive attitude.
