Key Accountabilities:

  • Administer the AFTN-MHS Databases.
  • Support the AFTN-MHS Life Cycle Support Management.
  • Support the AFTN-MHS Networks.
  • Monitoring AFTN-MHS Systems Performance.
  • Support external A-CDM partners.
  • Provide second and / or thirdlevel technical support for hardware and software problems. passed on by other technical staff.
Job Requirements


Education:


  • Graduation with an acceptable degree from a recognized university or Community College with specialization in computer science or systems engineering OR a secondary school diploma and an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.

Experience:


  • Background in computer systems and / or programming.
  • At least 3 years experience with software development best practices, like unit testing, automated testing, and continuous integration.
  • At least 2 years experience with Relational Databases such as PostgreSQL.
  • At least 2 years experience with Git and Git Hosted platforms (such as GitLab or GitHub).
  • At least 3 years experience with Agile software development methodologies.
  • At least 3 years experience supporting systems with multiple clients.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of data and software development and testing process from preliminary design to formal testing and acceptance.
  • Knowledge of small, medium, and largescale computer systems, hardware, software languages, test, software development, software generation and configuration management tools.
  • Knowledge of maintenance processes, procedures and business functions in context of business system.
  • Current knowledge of industry trends and developments with respect to existing and evolving computer languages and technologies, productivity tools, user problems, communications equipment and systems suppliers, emerging trends, and practices, etc.
  • Knowledge of telecommunication networks, interface protocols and devices, and network peripheral equipment and the associated services provided by telecommunication service providers (e.g. Allstream, Bell Canada, Zayo) is an asset.

Abilities:

  • Excellent testing skills.
  • Excellent debugging skills.
  • Ability to set priorities, to adapt to changing priorities, to work under mínimal supervision, to work in a team, and to handle multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to conduct studies and investigations and develop design changes to improve systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Working conditions:

  • This position is based at the Technical Services Centre in Ottawa but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
  • Occasional international travel may be required.
