POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, Fabricators at Thermogenics build stands, boiler shells, tanks and other boiler components. The Fabricator role provides assistance and service in support of other jobs in the Plant. Fabricators are responsible for cutting and fitting steel using equipment such as band saws, grinders and drill presses.

They work according to blue prints and shop drawings provided the Director of Engineering and will seek assistance where they detect a possible inaccuracy in these materials.

In addition, laying out, cutting and fitting Fabricators also use welding processes to assemble materials.

Main Activities:

  • Accurately read and interpret blue prints and drawings to independently execute jobs and tasks to specification
  • Appropriately lay out and safely cut materials using the correct tools and equipment
  • Measure and assemble materials according to blue print and drawing instructions
  • Weld as required using gas metal arc (specified WPS) and shielded metal arc welding processes
  • Safely and successfully, operate equipment such as oxy acetylene torches, rolling machines, band saws, hand tools, measuring devices.
  • Perform finishes on assembled parts using grinders and wire wheels
  • Safely lift and manage the size and weight of materials and finished products throughout the process
  • Other duties as required.

Main Activities:

  • Employ a safetyfirst mindset and contribute to a safe environment daily
  • Fully participate in any and all provided or required training sessions related to Fabrication job types
  • Provide professional feedback on received trainings and maintain an awareness of any expire dates related to training requirements
  • Support and train new or less experienced colleagues on various Fabrication processes as required
  • Monitor work environment for hazards and maintain health ventilation levels to avoid particle or gas inhalation
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment and the maintenance of engineered controls (e.g. guards)
  • Report any potential hazards (e.g. faulty equipment) or potentially hazardous conditions to management immediately
  • Ensure good housekeeping in all work spaces
  • Other duties as required.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:


  • Production Supervisor: Ongoing interaction as a direct report to seek guidance and support related to work assignments, inventory, paperwork or safety concerns.
  • Other Fabricators: Ongoing interaction to collaborate on work orders and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Test Bay Technician: Periodic interaction to install burner rings.
  • Director Engineering: Periodic interaction to consult on drawing or blue print irregularities.

TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Basic maths skills and strong mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of cutting, welding and fabrication processes
  • Knowledge of industry safety practices
  • Ability to read and understand prints, drawings and technical bulletins
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals
  • Ability to confidently use a variety of tools, machinery and computer technology

TERM, HOURS OF WORK AND COMPENSATION:
This position is a full-time role with a three (3) month probationary period.

Hours of work are 40 hours / week and structured according to the plant schedule as follows:

Monday - Thursday 6:30am - 5:00pm


May also be from 6:30 am to 3:45 pm Monday to Thursday and 6:30 am to 11:30 am on Friday.

Occasional overtime (e.g. weekends) work may become available as required in the business and paid at overtime rates.

The role is entitled to 4% vacation pay and paid statutory holidays. We have a full benefit package and retirement savings plan.


WORKING CONDITIONS:


Physical Effort:
Work activities require frequent, length periods of heavy physical effort for majority of the work day. Work includes frequent standing, stooping and bending and requirement to regularly lift and carry large, awkward or heavy objects.


Physical Environment:
Frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable conditions including dust, dirt, moving parts, extreme temperatures, sharp edges, loud noises, Exposure to accident or hazards could lead to lost-time injuries


Sensory Attention:
Work activities involve need to concentrate for intermediate durations at a time with some tasks requiring close attention. The need for detailed or precise work is moderate.


Mental Stress:
Occasional exposure to one or more mental pressures, though the mental stress would not be noticeably disruptive. Work is repetitious and related unpleasant stress reaction is not typically strong.
