Job Description:


Under the administrative direction of the Manager, Student Talent Development, the Incumbent plays an essential role in ensuring the quality of paid co-op experiences as well as supporting students through the various parts of the co-op journey, including comprehensive career education and employment readiness training.

The Incumbent is responsible for providing up-to-date employment and job search advising and assists co-op students in preparing for the world of work by guiding them through resume and cover letter work-sessions, interview preparation, self-directed job search, etc.

This support can take the form of one-on-one coaching and group sessions in-person, or online. The Incumbent develops and delivers presentations on employment topics and continues to support students through their work terms. There is a strong emphasis on the development of internal stakeholder relationships and servicing and growing existing ones.

The Incumbent will work in close collaboration with other members of the Co-op and Career Centre, faculty, Chairs, and Administrators.

The Incumbent will also develop and sustain relationships with a long list of external stakeholders.


Duties and Responsibilities:
Advise, coach, and consult with students through their Co-op preparation and job search activities

Subject Matter Expert, staff support, and stakeholder relations:

  • Provides operational and coaching support to student-facing staff, while reinforcing Co-op specific procedures and service standards
  • Acts as a resource and mentor to all new employees, supporting their onboarding, training, and integration into the department
  • Gives guidance to Co-op Student Advisors and other student facing staff on departmental procedures and College policies when deviations from standard practices occur (such as work term terminations, security clearance delays, or other circumstances that may result in students losing their co-op work terms or becoming off-cycle)
  • Oversees all student conflicts and complaints, working collaboratively with other departments to resolve issues in a timely manner and in accordance with Co-op Terms and Conditions and other departmental/College-wide practices
Coordinating special projects and initiatives, and allocating duties/tasks to team members, to support continuous improvement and departmental growth:

  • Undertakes and leads special projects assigned by the Manager, including but not limited to those specific to the department or College-wide
  • Acting as a change agent, leading initiatives in the Co-op department, and in the greater College community
  • Facilitating the rollout of new initiatives and supports the deployment and implementation of departmental priorities and changes
  • Project manages activities and tasks by identifying what needs to be done, when and to whom tasks need to be assigned, monitoring progress against deadlines, and providing support to team members where challenges arise
  • Makes recommendations to the Manager when potential conflicts/gaps arise
  • Supports the growth of the Co-op Department by developing and sustaining strong internal relationships and proposing innovate ways to improve operations


Monitoring student progress and increasing learner success through data management, reporting for quality improvement purposes, and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools.


Collaborates with internal and external constituents for the purposes of promoting Algonquin College Co-op programs to students, employers, faculty, and other services/departments.

Provide co-op work term monitoring and support to students and employers ('site visits') to increase job maintenance.

Perform other related duties as assigned. Special projects as assigned.


Required Qualifications:

  • 3year diploma/degree or equivalent in Business, Education, Human Resources, Marketing, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Career Development, or any other program with a Cooperative Education component. Minimum of five (5) years experience working in the field of employment services, as a Coop Student Advisor, Coop Officer, or related experience in Employment, Career Services, Coop, Counselling, Job Development, or Human Resources. Must include experience:
  • Developing and delivering services that prepare job seekers for employment, providing job searching and maintenance supports, and/or creating job development opportunities, preferably in an academic settingDemonstrated ability to resolve conflict surrounding sensitive iss
