Description

To manage the Imaging Department's staff, patient flow, wait times, quality program, drive continuous quality improvement initiatives and education throughout the department, on a daily basis.

Ensure the equipment inventory is maintained, managed and meets all legislative requirements and testing. Careful management of capital inventory and specialized product inventory.

Promotion and delivery of education and continuous learning within the department, including supporting the Queens Radiology Residency program as well as the numerous Colleges and University's clinical training programs for technologists.

The goal of this involvement must be to promote an environment of continuous learning and development with its entire staff and pride in the profession of diagnostic imaging.


Excellent communication skills with the team of radiologists as well as the departments and services that rely in Diagnostic Imaging to support the care of the patients is a critical component of the position.


The manager is responsible for quality and process improvements, generate new ideas, and implement change with the focus on improving access, efficiency and safety for patients and staff.

Attention to managing the department and its resources within the budget aligned to the department is mandatory.

A superior understanding of the business side of Imaging and the ability to maximize resources, production and inventory is critical to this position.

Demonstrated previous experience in managing departmental human resources is required.

The individual must be able to develop, support and enhance the growth of skilled strong staff, as well as managing the poor performers in hopes of developing them into functional employees, or managing them out of the department if required.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES:


Continuous Quality Improvement:

Using the principles of continuous improvement in a healthcare setting to improve service to patients, families, referring services and programs, community stakeholders and the staff of KHSC.

Dedicating time to support and when needed lead change initiatives throughout the department.

These initiatives need to get results but also increase the knowledge and capacity of clinical teams to use quality improvement when addressing ongoing challenges.-
Quality:Monitor the quality of service provided by the department ensuring processes are in place that each senior/charge technologist is equipped to manage this effectively on a daily basis. Monitor staff performance and provide feedback and coaching as required.

In collaboration with the immediate supervisor of the employee, develop robust performance development plans tailored to meet the individual staff performance's needs as required.

Organize education opportunities both internally to KHSC and externally for all staff.-
Logistics:Daily review and collaborative coordination of resources in Imaging Services including departmental staff as well as support services within KHSC.

Interdepartmental communication to address requests and concerns regarding patient flow. Support and advise senior Imaging Services staff to address staffing shortage and assignments. Organize resources to meet urgent requests critical to patient care and outcomes.-
Resources:Monthly/weekly monitoring and scheduling of human resources and equipment

to meet the needs of the patient population while remaining cognizant of the operational budget. Regularly review wait time data and booking status of all modalities in order to identify and respond to trends in demand and coverage. Liaise regularly with peer hospital managers to anticipate and prepare for changes in service demands as required.-
Safety:Adheres to responsibilities as set out in the Healing Arts Radiation Protection Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, hospital safety policies, Inflection Control Policies, and departmental established procedures by auditing the Imaging Services environment and practices of the clinical and support staff. Participate in incident reporting process to resolve and act on identified risks as quickly as possible.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Diploma\Degree in Business Administration and\or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Healthcare designation or relevant experience
  • LEAN, Six Sigma designations or relevant experience an asset
  • Project management designation or relevant experience in this area an asset
  • Minimum of 35 years of proven experience demonstrating success in implementing and sustaining process quality improvement initiatives across multiple stakeholders.
